Elliot Goldenthal is perhaps most well known for his grand Hollywood films scores which include two Batman films, Interview with a Vampire, Titus, Final Fantasy and others. This album features a more intense and intimate side of this Oscar winning composer. In addition to the composer's first string quartet from 2013, this album includes world premiere recordings of Goldenthals 1980 Sonata for Bass and Piano and the composers 1974 Three Pieces for Solo Piano. Fantastic! I knew it was coming, but had forgotten all about the release date.
I already have the brass quintet by the Extension Ensemble, though, and wish he had recorded, say, the FIRST brass quintet instead. But hey, a minor qualm.
