I was watching Shout Factory's D.V.D. set of "Peyton Place" Season Pt. 1 , and was appalled at the slipshod quality. The prints looked so bad as if they threw the masters in a sandbox. And "McHale's Navy Season 2" had poor audio on the main title sequence of the first episode, and they even cut the Revue logo off halfway. Can anybody explain why they would do this?
I can't answer to those shows, but I have seasons 2-4 of "Simon & Simon" and while the audio/visual quality is fairly good, as most every episode is the full print, complete with the era's proper Universal logo. They even acknowledge when syndicated prints are used when the original versions are lost. However, the cases they come in leave a foggy residue on the discs themselves. Shout Factory has corrected this with subsequent releases--I also have their Quincy, M.E. sets which are in the flipper book style cases--but they haven't changed the packaging for Simon & Simon.
