THURSDAY, MARCH 13

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII---candidates to play the "lead Jedi apprentice" are Jesse Plemons (BREAKING BAD), John Boyega (ATTACK THE BLOCK), Ed Speleers (DOWNTON ABBEY), Matthew James Thomas (ABOUT A BOY) and Broadway actor Ray Fisher.

SYFY---Syfy head Dave Howe said Syfy is returning to its roots, "We want to be the best science-fiction channel that we possibly can...that means going back to the more traditional sci-fi/fantasy that fans often say they feel we've exited. We're going to occupy that space in a way we haven't for the past few years." Syfy will develop a space opera series similar to BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and new big-budget miniseries. It will reduce the number of its campy tv movies although SHARKNADO will continue as an annual feature.

SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES---Disney remake underway of its 1983 movie based on the Ray Bradbury novel. Writer/director Seth Grahame-Smith (ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER) said the remake will be more faithful to the novel than the original movie.

SAN ANDREAS---Carla Gugino will co-star with Dwayne Johnson in this disaster movie about a firefighter and his ex-wife who travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco during a massive earthquake to rescue their daughter.

TAKEN 3---Maggie Grace (LOST) will reunite with Liam Neeson for the last movie in the franchise. Grace will also co-star in a CBS pilot about a Wall Street hedge fund trader.

EXPLORERS---remake underway of the 1985 Joe Dante movie in which boys build a spaceship in their backyard for space exploration. Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix starred in the original movie.

TEXAS RISING---History Channel eight-hour miniseries underway about the Texas revolt against Mexico and the birth of the Texas Rangers. Bill Paxton, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Thomas Jane and Jeffrey Dean Morgan star.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER---photo released of the wedding between Barney and Robin which airs on March 24. Also, CBS renewed THE BIG BANG THEORY for three more seasons.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.---Adrian Pasdar (HEROES) will guest star as Glenn Talbot in a future episode.

TERM LIFE---movie underway starring Vince Vaughn, Hailee Steinfeld, Bill Paxton and Jon Favreau in which a man, who is being pursued by the mob, assassins and crooked cops, takes out a $1 million insurance policy payable to his estranged daughter. He must stay alive until the policy goes into effect in 21 days.

PAN---Rooney Mara is in talks to lay Tiger Lily in this origin movie about Peter Pan. Garrett Hedlund and Hugh Jackman star.

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS---Helena Bonham Carter returns as the Red Queen in the sequel to ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

SUGAR MOUNTAIN---dark comedy movie underway about a family where a hoax goes wrong with dire results. Cary Elwes, Jason Momoa and Haley Webb star.

That certainly sounds promising, and it will be interesting to see if they can live up to it.

Bleh! But if it gets the original brought out on Blu-ray, so be it.

Ah, so the Body Snatchers running the network were defeated. Nice.

And I still say that people were forcing SHARKNADO's 'so bad it's good'/new cult classic status.

I've never seen Sharknado, but if the preview that I saw (which included a killer shark flying at a guy with a chainsaw and being cut in half lengthwise) before my buddy's movie from the same company is any indication, it deserves the reputation.

I expect nothing, but if they look at any of the original ideas, an Explorers remake might be worth it to get a look at what Joe Dante and Co. had in mind before Paramount moved up the release date, causing Dante to basically leave the film unfinished.

There's plenty of original scripts being written and shopped around, the issue is whether or not it gets sold to a studio who wants to pour money into getting it made.

Haaaaahahaha...love it!! I wonder if at some point there will be a crossover with the Two-Headed Sharks? I mean - what's worse than a Sharknado conatining one-headed sharks? I can see it now....bring 'em on...
