My best James Bond score & film!

1. Exercise In Gibraltar.
2. Ice Chase.
3. Hercules Takes Off / Air Bond.

*Saw & shook hands with Timothy Dalton in the foyer of the Roosevelt Hotel,
Hollywood wayback in 199007!

It's not my favourite JB007 score, despite the film being one of my favourite JB007 films. But, for me, it is the last great JB007 film score ... nothing since has come close to capturing the magic.

I'm not surprised John Barry left the franchise and I'm glad he did despite the decline in scores (and films, too, IMHO) because his lack of interest would have eventually fed its way into his output. Given his declining output from the late 1980's onwards (ill heath, etc.) I'm pleased he put his talents into composing other scores.

I don't recall ever reading his views on Timothy Dalton as JB007 but if he was less than positive then I don't agree ... but then I love his music output not his opinions.

As for nominating a favourite track in the score ... I think I can name the songs and the easy-listening track Into Vienna as my least favourites. A fabulous score without a dud track ... just not in the class of several of his earlier JB007 scores.

Excellent score, one of my top 3 Bond scores (the others being OHMSS and FYEO) favourite track though - and I'm just being plain awkward here - isn't on the is the Suite that was published for orchestra some years later...I love listening to that score, but not as much as I do playing the trumpet part to that suite!!! It is...just...f*** yeah...

Great score, for me the last real original Bond score.
great from start to finish, Airbond being my favorite track.
Barry and lots a horns and strings, nobody does it better!

Perhaps this was mentioned in a previous thread, but I couldn't find the answer.
Having just purchased the Capitol EMI Remastered (have the Ryco already) I was surprised (in a bad way) to find the Ryco fold-out liner notes were re-printed and added to this edition as well.

Question #1 - Was the 2003 remastered again after the Ryco 1998 Cd?

Question #2 - Why reprint the Ryco booklet? So was Jeff Bond part of the budget cutting on the later 2003 series?

I love this score to bits. I'm gonna narrow it down to three:

- "Murder at the Fair"; especially evocative when the strings shift from the 'Where Has Everybody Gone?' bridge to 'Living Daylights' 'All right, just hold on tight now'/'It's down...down to the wire'. (0:57-1:37)

- "Afganistan Plan"; the slower renditions of 'Where Has Everybody Gone?' are, perhaps, my favorite moments of the score and this track combines them with one of my favorite Barry hallmarks: lush strings (the Howard the Duck-like coda is pretty nice, too)

- "Mujahadin and Opium"; no real thematic content here, just more flowing strings and they are lovely

Runners-up: "Airbase Jailbreak", "Hercules Takes Off", "'Assassin' and Drugged" and "Inflight Fight"

I'm with most everybody else on this one - it's probably been my most-played Bond album in the last twenty even years (good lord, it's been that long!).

I've always felt it makes the very strongest of all the Bond OST albums - great length, great songs (and no I don't even like songs in scores most of the time), great variety, great update of the Bond theme, killer new action track in Necros Attacks.

I first had it on cassette, and side one was so terrific I set some silly lyrics of my own to the version of If There Was a Man in Kara Meets Bond. You can sing it with me at 1:20 in:
"Spooky kitty, shadow kitty, spooking in the cat shadows, that shadow kitty spooking...." big grin

But my very favorite track is the one that ended side one originally - Koskov Escapes - pure Barry Bond.

(The extra tracks are terrific, glad to have them, but that was a perfect 35-minute album.)

Exercise at Gibraltar
Assassin and Drugged
Airbase Jailbreak
Necros Attacks
Where Has Everybody Gone?

This is one of my favorite Barry scores. Lukas made a great decision in expanding this. Barry really went out with a bang! I actually grew to like this movie more overtime. I think a lot of the movies bad reputation comes from Timothy Dalton playing the character as to serious of a person. He didn't exhibit that cocky, witted humor side of Bond we all love.
