INTRADA Announces:

ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH
Composed and Conducted by HENRY MANCINI
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 270

Intrada announces the premiere release of Henry Mancini's score to the 1975 film Once is Not Enough -- what is probably Henry Mancini's most “sixties” sounding score of the seventies. It is rich in both warm and sad melody, chock full of striking combo and big band source cues surely to linger long after the disc stops playing. Fashioning one of his most beautiful main themes, as well as an equally haunting melody for the tender/tragic character of January, the score centers on two primary themes representing the dueling sides of January’s love life. Set against the gleaming gold of an Oscar statuette, the score opens with a theme that sparkles and shimmers with lush strings underscored by sweeping harp glissandi, synthesizer swells and a tinkling bell-like figure, setting the stage for the rest of this rare Mancini gem to follow.

For this premiere release, Intrada had access to the 2" 16-track session masters vaulted by Paramount in pristine condition.

Kirk Douglas stars as a down-on-his-luck producer who marries the fifth-wealthiest woman in the world (Alexis Smith) to provide for his daughter, January (Deborah Raffin), a young woman suffering from a serious daddy complex. George Hamilton stars as January’s suave suitor, Melina Mercouri is a Garbo-like recluse, and Brenda Vaccaro provides an Oscar-nominated jolt of energy as a sexually ferocious magazine editor.

So typical MANCINI you will either really like it or find it dull.

Yeah, as much as I hate samples, I caved and am running them for a few
'on the fence titles'.
Lots of that great moody, harmonically complex-sounding (to me) string writing
Mancini excelled at.
Good stuff, where do I sign ;-)

I love Mancini during his sleazy listening combover period. Will be very happy to have this.

Despite myself, I got so excited about this I had to pull out my Return of the Pink Panther score to listen while waiting for it to show up. (Return of PP was one of the first score albums I bought, my first Mancini, and still a sweet ride.)

I keep thinking I've outgrown all that easy listening crap, and then I hear more obscure Mancini, and I realize that when it comes to his music, it just isn't crap. I don't love it all, but it sure does make me feel alright.... even when it's so wrong.

Received my copy today along with THE SPY WHO...etc. Forget about how bad this movie was and just sit back and relax with beautiful Henry Mancini music. It's bound to lower your blood pressure if that's what you need.

Listening now. The sound of mid-70s adult ennui. Beautiful.

Totally sick Morricone-esque track with heavy funky bass and drums and a series of unrelated chords on the guitar.

This turned out to be a disappointment for me.

Purchased it blindly & based soley on this over hyped tag line:

"What might be Henry Mancini's finest score for the seventies finally makes its long overdue premiere on CD!"

I know HM scores for the seventies that are far superior, at least to my taste.

Well, it all depends on what you're into. This one has this deliciously cheesed-out 70s soft-erotic aesthetic, which rendered it a must have for this albino koala.
