Even the 1992 laserdisc was in widescreen, so the transfer used for this current MOD DVD is indeed more than 20 years old.

I have the Fox widescreen laserdisc - it has minimal letterboxing though - I just pulled it out of the miasma of my collection - I can't believe I found it so easily - it has an attractive foldout cover with nine color stills decorating the inside and out of the set -- not to be found on any dvd I'll bet

It was stored along with the double LP LEGEND set - boy does that have a beautiful cover art from the Italian movie posters - plus four sides of the amazing Miklos Rozsa score - I am sure that all have been issued on CD but this LP foldout is a gem nonetheless.

I am not surprized -- a total botch of a film deserving restoration --

somewhere I have a decent WS dvd from Germany of this (in English) -- it is about 10 years old .

I have also the German Edition - probably the best edition that can be located so far - and it has german & english audio - though menus are in german only. What worries me is the length of german version - i believe it runs for about 143 minutes - taking into account NTFS / PAL difference - it could amount for another 7 minutes (150) - but seems german version is still missing at least 5 minutes - if the american running time of 155 is correct. Does anyone here knows more about it?

The German version does indeed have the best picture quality of the DVDs I've seen but it is cut - or more accurately, it's edited differently (different countries seem to have had alternative versions of the film). In particular, the opening scene with the main titles is about 2.30 mins. shorter plus some other cuts which I've not identified. I've not seen the Fox DVD but I've seen other versions of 154/155 minutes which seem to be complete. The full roadshow version of the film with Overture, Intermission, Entr'acte and Exit Music should run about 166 minutes.

This was a film that I really wanted to see, but it was an X certificate on release & I was too young, my older sister saw it & told me how shocking it was (she was lying). I finally caught up with it on the telly a few years ago...& I won't be watching it again smile

thnx a lot Doug - for a brief moment i was thinking that 5 minute difference is because of German version skipping 5 minute intermission after the battle & return to sodom (was checking soundtrack) - but you proved me wrong....also was not aware of different cuts but that does not surprise me....

Some enterprising Blu-Ray producer should consider releasing this in the complete 166 minute version --

are you listening Twilight Time?

I have a little question regarding Sodom.

On Digitmovies there is

Overture - 4:38 Disc 1, Track 1
Intermezzo - 5:10 Disc , Track 1
Exit Music (Epilogue ? )- 2:06 - Disc 2, Track 16.

But what about "Entr'acte" ? It is not on any cd...

I watched the movie few times (155 minutes version) and there is scene when Lot says - "Salt!" and in background we hear arrangement of "Hebrew March" and short buildup and then music is cut and next scene is Sodom with "Welcome to Sodom" (dics 2, track2) track.

Maybe this little Hebrew March arrangement in the Lot speech is Entracte ? But cut unfortunatelly...

I'm not an expert on this film, but I think the Intermezzo is the Entr'Acte.

The Entr'Acte is the Intermezzo, the terms are interchangeable, they're from the concert hall.

You're thinking of the 'Intermission Title' which ends Act I. It's never been released ... until now. I don't know what the piece is called.

People who had the old Citadel LP of 'The Power and Sodom and Gomorrah' picked up an extra little 'Dance', actually part of the 'Twins' Dance'. There's quite a lot still to be released.
