As I recall, it's heard during one of the sequences involving the young composer in the studio across the way...

What more gone with the Wind do we need? we already had a two disc complete soundtrack from Rhino.
No no no no no !!!!!
I need it, I don't have that 2-disc box set of Gone with the Wind.
My interest in film score has just started in March 2009, and this set has already been out of print.
Amazon.com has used copies for about 30, which is slightly lower than the original list price of 31.98. Of course it's very likely that it will be re-issued in the Warner Archive collection, but this will not have the packaging of the Rhino - which is a real beauty! The real pity is that there were several GWTW tapes from the Max Steiner library which I assume had plenty of material unavailable on CD - plus the Rhino omitted several "obvious" selections like the intermission. This definitely deserves a FSM "Ben-Hur" style release. The re-recordings could not be included because they are with different record companies, but I guess there's plenty original material to fill 3 or 4 disks for the die hard fan...

That piece has a fascinating history. When Waxman was running his annual LA music festival, Shostakovich attended one year. Waxman invited him to his home, and Dimitri smoked nervously throughout the meal. Then Waxman played him that section, which it turns out was almost identical to a passage in one of Shosti's symphonies, composed LATER. There was no hint or suggestion that anyone had heard the other's piece, just one of those strange coincidences.

Just goes to show you how one man's meat is another man's poison. I'm not a huge Steiner fan...outside of 'Kong' and 'Adventures of Don Juan,' I can hardly stand to listen to most of his output (and I love the Golden Age stuff of just about everybody else...except Tiomkin, Stothart and Victor Young...anyway).
But one disc is way too much for me...and particularly for this especially execrable film. Your mileage may vary, of course, and more power to you if such a re-recording happens or the original recordings are found, but I know this collector won't be elbowing his way to the front to buy one.

I'd buy a Rear Window CD in a heartbeat and would LOVE to have all that great source music.
