In 2014 will be celebrated 75th anniversary of GWTW and 60th anniversary of rear window.

so I hope it will be released soundtracks by steiner (original or re-recording) and original score by franz waxman.

Are the REAR WINDOW music rights still with Paramount or were they transferred with the film to Universal ? If they are still with Paramount, I hope Kritzerland has some more Waxman from Paramount in their pipeline in the near future.

What more gone with the Wind do we need? we already had a two disc complete soundtrack from Rhino.
Most of Rear Window is source music, hardly any background score in this film at all.

Yes, but the source music is wonderfully effective. I'd love this unusual Wazman score.

There's even a cue in REAR WINDOW that sounds like chase music Waxman previously used in A PLACE IN THE SUN.

(For those soundtrack afficianados who appreciate such things...)

As I recall, it's heard during one of the sequences involving the young composer in the studio across the way...

The track you mean can be heard in the Lalo Schifrin recorded suite as "Ballet".

We need all the remaining Paramount/Universal Hitchcocks...

I assume there are plenty of outtakes and alternates available for GWTW. There's never been a complete stereo re-recording thus far - and the LP by Cyril Ornadel has thus far not been re-issued on CD. This may sound like nitpicking, but this isn't just any film...

Additions to the Anniversary list are: stereo "Wizard of Oz", original "Rebecca" tracks, an extended "Some Like It Hot", "Mary Poppins" (with alternates, outtakes PLUS re-issue of international LPs!!!), "My Fair Lady" (the previous release is a joke - PLUS international versions are also unavailable to this date); then there are more obscure titles like Max Steiner's "A Star Is Born"...

I fear none of them will happen - not even "Goldfinger" frown

No no no no no !!!!!

I need it, I don't have that 2-disc box set of Gone with the Wind.

My interest in film score has just started in March 2009, and this set has already been out of print.

Perhaps a single disc rerecording of GWTW would be sufficient?

It would still include much more music than the earlier rerecordings (which themselves are already reasonably good representations of the score), and it would be less costly to produce than a full rerecording. It's not like there isn't any repeated thematic material that couldn't be left off or trimmed. I'd imagine this would sell quite well by soundtrack rerecording standards.

Amazon.com has used copies for about 30, which is slightly lower than the original list price of 31.98. Of course it's very likely that it will be re-issued in the Warner Archive collection, but this will not have the packaging of the Rhino - which is a real beauty! The real pity is that there were several GWTW tapes from the Max Steiner library which I assume had plenty of material unavailable on CD - plus the Rhino omitted several "obvious" selections like the intermission. This definitely deserves a FSM "Ben-Hur" style release. The re-recordings could not be included because they are with different record companies, but I guess there's plenty original material to fill 3 or 4 disks for the die hard fan...

unreleased Rhino material.
The steiner tapes had just a few things -
The opening barbecue scene, aversion of the Rhett Theme.
Uncle Peter trying to catch a turkey as Chrismtas Dinner for the White folks.
Alternate of Geralds death which goes into unsued music of Scarlett deciding to use the curtains for a dress.
The actual Finale of the film ( all soundtrack releases used an earlier unused version of this scene.)

That piece has a fascinating history. When Waxman was running his annual LA music festival, Shostakovich attended one year. Waxman invited him to his home, and Dimitri smoked nervously throughout the meal. Then Waxman played him that section, which it turns out was almost identical to a passage in one of Shosti's symphonies, composed LATER. There was no hint or suggestion that anyone had heard the other's piece, just one of those strange coincidences.

Just goes to show you how one man's meat is another man's poison. I'm not a huge Steiner fan...outside of 'Kong' and 'Adventures of Don Juan,' I can hardly stand to listen to most of his output (and I love the Golden Age stuff of just about everybody else...except Tiomkin, Stothart and Victor Young...anyway).

But one disc is way too much for me...and particularly for this especially execrable film. Your mileage may vary, of course, and more power to you if such a re-recording happens or the original recordings are found, but I know this collector won't be elbowing his way to the front to buy one.

I love Steiner's "GWTW", however another recording of this score is the last thing I need.

I am willing to pay more for a shrink-wrapped / factory-sealed copy, but it is a pity that there is no such thing. Anybody has reserved a copy for 18 years without using?

As you've said, GWTW should be released in the way FSM did for Ben-Hur.

I hope Intrada can do reissue this 2CD set. Other labels don't seem to do this title.

I'd buy a Rear Window CD in a heartbeat and would LOVE to have all that great source music.

In the documentary about the restoration of Gone With The Wind in 2004 for its DVD/Blu-ray release, the engineer said the audio has been remastered from a better source, close to the original, making some sounds more noticeable, as the bass on the music score.

The Rhino release from 1995 has been remastered from the optical tracks, the original
recordings on discs still survive?
Or if the source used in 2009 have the music-only track, if its the case, then a new edition using
these new elements would be a real improvement over the ones previously released.

Any music from any Hitchcock film would be great to have.
