Finally got this CD, after putting it off for too long. Simply stunning.

Yared writes the kind of scores I love - hugely melodic, sweepingly orchestral.

This is like his Talented Mr. Ripley score, which I adore, on steroids.

An epic thriller score, with hints of Bernard Herrmann.

Highly recommended.

I'm finding that I don't like many current scores anymore. Five or ten years ago there would be one or two a month I wanted, now I'm lucky if I buy five a year. I've switched over to buying older scores that I put off getting. On a Yared binge right now. Can't believe I missed this one.

Agreed. Scores that are interesting, to me that is, are few and far between these days.... unless you consider foreign - and when I say foreign - I mean non-mainstream American film scores. There are still many good ones to be had, but you have to actively pursue them,

As for Yared, I consider myself fortunate to have been exposed to his music in the late eighties. Now, thanks to wonderful labels like Quartet and Music Box, his music - non US film music that is - is experiencing a renaissance of sorts. Great work guys!

Edit: I was astounded to hear a Qu├ębecois film with such a great score as film music isn't exactly ingrained in our cinematic mores here... yet! wink

I had high hopes for the film after Dolan's excellent LAURENCE ANYWAYS. Alas, both this film and MOMMY disappointed me for a variety of reasons.

As for Yared's score, that didn't quite grab me either. But I'm willing to give it another chance.

Laurence Anyways? Really? As it happens, the subject of Dolan and his films came up during a break today and even though the four of us are as different as can be in tastes and outlooks, we spontaneously erupted in a roar of giggles, snickers and guffaws... and we are his compatriots!

As for Yared's score, please give it another listen. If you like finelly crafted suspense scores - in a Herrmannesque vein - you should eventually enjoy this one. (Incidentally, Dolan claims to have never seen a Hitchcock film - yeah right!).

LAURENCE was a masterpiece, IMO, and was unanimously loved among my colleagues (I work for a film site) -- several of them had it at the very top of their yearly list, while it was my own no. 10. Still high. Of course, they also loved MOMMY and TOM, but I wasn't quite as taken by them for several reasons.

But yeah...I do have a promo of Yared's score, and I'll give it another spin.
