The movie was originally more serious and a lot more violent before cuts were made to make it the film it is now. Goldsmith quit the project when the director shifted sides, apparently.
So more than likely it is a serious score. I demand a new recording!
Are we saying JG preferred a violent movie about a cute pig over the lovely little film that got released? Sounds a bit odd to me as JG preferred nicer movies to score over the ones he often got.
I'm sure I read Goldsmith recorded this score in Australia. And I remember a friend speaking to Robert Townson saying it was recorded and he wanted to do it many years ago.

I'm sure it's possible Goldsmith was lying when he told the story. I just don't see why he would. [Correction: he told the story at the LOONEY TUNES session, not SUM OF ALL FEARS]
In addition, members of the Orchestra have featured on numerous film soundtracks including those for such major motion pictures as Babe, IQ, Hotel Sorrento, Six Degrees of Separation, Babe II Pig in the City and The Dish. The MSO has also recorded music for a number of computer and console-based games.
Referring to my own "What Goldsmith scores are left to expand?" thread, apparently none other than Dan Goldwasser has confirmed that at least a substantial amount of Goldsmith's score to this WAS recorded! Now the tapes would just have to be found and Varese can release it!

There was nothing recorded. There are no tapes to be released. Just 90% of a written score.
(Incidentally, the information came up in conversation with Goldsmith when James Cromwell visited the scoring session for THE SUM OF ALL FEARS. Full circle!)

Anyone who refers to RoboCop as "a hoot" (as Goldsmith did in either the Total Recall documentary or his Hollow Man commentary; can't remember for sure) must have been at least okay with violence. The man obviously did like working with Verhoeven after all. Alex North basically gave The Sand Pebbles to Goldsmith when the film proved too violent for his own sensibilities. And various other anecdotal evidence!

What? This is a great film! Would have easily been among the best things Jerry did in the 90s anyway. Nigel Westlake's use of Saint-Saens worked a charm for the film, but I would be super excited to hear what Goldsmith came up with if he actually wrote/recorded anything...
