Fanderson is thrilled to report that we have reached agreement with ITV to release a soundtrack album CD of Thunderbirds, enabling club members to fill a large gap in their soundtrack collection!

As with previous club releases, the album will be as complete as possible, using Barry Gray’s original master recordings. These recordings will be professionally remastered and, where possible, stereo tracks will be included, although many tracks will only be available in mono. The album will come with a full-colour booklet containing track notes, trivia, and musician and recording session information.

Release date and prices have not yet been set, but we intend for Thunderbirds fans to have their album later this year!

Live action fans will also be pleased to hear that a 40th Anniversary edition of the club’s long out-of-print Space:1999 Year One album is also in the works.

I thought the 2-disc set was already everything written and needle-dropped for Series 1.

I wonder what the Thunderbirds CD will have that the two excellent Silva discs didn't...?

Fingers still crossed for Space Precinct.

There is a mention of some stereo tracks in the advert. In any case, the Silva CDs are indeed excellent. However, there is no such thing as too much Barry Gray.

I love Barry Gray's music but again I think these will be for Fanderson members only.

At £29 for membership plus about £22 for the CD, that's £51!!

Too much for me!

By chance, will the album have the original I.T.C. logo by Jack Parnell?

Probably not.

Steep, but still cheap at twice the price. smile just don't tell Fanderson.

If it didn't appear on Network's The Music Of ITC, and hasn't appeared on any Fanderson discs to date, then I wouldn't expect it to appear here.

And I always thought that was by Edwin Astley!

There's plenty of music from Thunderbirds that could be released, but Space 1999 Season One? Being a Barry Gray fan, I'll be intrigued to see what they come out with.

I have Silva Screen's two volumes of Thunderbirds music and I have the original Fanderson 2CD of Space:1999 season one. (I also have the subsequence Silva Screen Space:1999 CD.)

I'm really excited Fanderson are producing these but on a personal level I'm wondering what new content they might have over and above what I already have. Any thoughts?

The Anderson Facebook page was asking for ideas as to what Thunderbirds cues could be used for a new CD. There wasn't a shortage of answers, as expected, even down to correcting existing recordings that don't mirror the on screen music. As for Space 1999, I'm stumped. It's common knowledge that Barry Gray was ill during production and various different cues were used from, then, current orchestral works to Classical compositions.

Off topic but relevant to Space 1999; an announcement was made yesterday that BTS footage of Space 1999 Year Two had been unnearthed, and would be aired at an upcoming convention. It didn't seem like an April Fool.

I saw that too. Wasn't sure if it was real or not, unlike the Stingray movie. Nice one. big grin

On the bright side, it's now a lot easier to join Fanderson since they made it all online.

No idea about Thunderbirds. But their first edition of Space: 1999 only had the Black Sun score in mono, as the multi tracks for that weren't available at the time they did it. Of course, by the time Silva did their one-disc set, the suite from that episode was in stereo as the tapes had been recovered, ISTR, but it was only a portion of the full score.

They could also include all the music from Ring Around the Moon (the Elms/Willis 'score'), although its made up of a load of very short cues. The version they did in the first CD wasn't quite complete, and actually I've warmed over the years to that somewhat minimalist score. Likewise I think they could (and probably should) do the complete score for The Troubled Spirit, rather than just the piece that opened the episode. I love the electric sitar wink

And I guess there should be a new remastering.

I'm quite happy though with the versions I already have. Personally, I'd like a new version of the Year 2 score, perhaps with some attempts at recreating one or two synth pieces that were left off first time round because they apparently don't exist. And one track (the main action theme for Space Warp) never sounded as good in the remix as it did on screen, or in Wadsworth's promo. I'm not really sure whether remixes are on the cards though - and apart from that one track in Year 2, the original mixes sounded very good to me anyway.

I have a feeling that the early announcement of these scores (which I assume are some time away yet) is something of a response to those who think that Fanderson is in some sort of decline, what with a soured relationship with Mary and Jamie Anderson etc. Personally I don't believe that. And good luck to them with these new editions.

I would love a recreation of the missing synths for the beginning of the first act of The Metamorph in year 2 if they ever bother. That was always one of my favorite cues and the CD version is a disappointment.

Having now joined Fanderson finally, I'm looking forward to a nice batch of releases and other nice bits.

Yes, I know the bit you mean. Sometimes, it was the synth overlays that made the piece. I like the punchy version of Kill Koenig! on the original Year 2 CD set (from the Bringers of Wonder) but I also liked - very much - the looped version with the synth overlay that was actually heard in the episode.

Beyond that, there were some wholly synth pieces that I liked - one or two showed up in the opening moments of episodes like New Adam New Eve and also in stories like Brian the Brain. They re-created one for the original CD set ('Memories of Psychon' I think they called it) and I think that did come out very well....

As far as the first series music goes, I can't think of much that is obviously missing or in need of fixing, other than the bits I mentioned above - which aren't Barry Gray pieces anyway. I suppose there might be some unused pieces or some of the electronic effects that he produced (the latter of which I wouldn't personally be all that interested in).

Fanderson’s eagerly awaited Space:1999 40th anniversary Year One soundtrack CD is now available for club members to pre-order online. The CD will be launched on September 20th, and is a full update of the club’s 1998 double-CD release.

Back in March, Fanderson caused a surge of excitement among fans when we announced we would be releasing the most comprehensive soundtrack CDs ever of Thunderbirds and Space:1999 Year 1.

The new triple Space:1999 album runs for over three and a half hours and, across its 80 tracks, contains music from every Year One episode as well as the compilation films Alien Attack and Journey Through The Black Sun.

Additional remastering has been undertaken to further improve the quality of the recording, new library tracks and Barry Gray archive material has been identified and are included in this new edition. The whole package is completed with a full-colour booklet that is almost double the page count of that in the 1998 edition and a special 40th Anniversary slipcase.

The Space:1999 40th anniversary CD is limited to just 1,000 copies, and is available exclusively for Fanderson members.

Due to expected very high demand for this product, we we initially restrict orders to 2 copies per member (we’ll be checking!).

Approximate running time: 212 minutes
