You got that right!smileI'm going to order PSYCHO II soon, I'm a little low on money right now. Back to STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT, his main theme is one of the most beautiful themes ever!

Georges Delerue beating out John Williams. Miklos Rozsa will always be NUMERO UNO.

A while back I attended a concert of Star Trek music by the Sydney Symphony at the Sydney Opera House. The presenter was of course condescending about the music, as such presenters always are (however subtley, or snidely), but I couldn't help wondering, as the orchestra played that sublime First Contact theme, what the orchestra members were thinking, and if they were too jaded to appreciate its soaring beauty. It must rank as one of Goldsmith's most inspired creations, and for a film not very inspired at all. Like Rozsa, Goldsmith had that ability to rise above the source material and find his own font of inspiration, which to me is the mark of a truly great film composer.

You said it, As I have said many times, film composers often will rise above the mediocrity of the films you are watching.

As much as I love, love, love Rozsa, Goldsmith will always be "NUMERO UNO"! Delerue is great but not in this esteemed company.

It is such a hard question I always try to be realistic within the realm that life is partly how we see it and how it is. In humble abhor I feel nobody is wise enough to separate greats in any venture in life. What I mean, there are some obvious things in life and then there are things no person could really dissect to give an answer too Obviously MICHAEL JORDAN is a better basketball player then my aunt. but could one really prove Jordan WAS INDEED BETTER THEN Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain etc etc etc, They all were great, PERIOD. Obviously WILLIE MAYS was a better baseball player then my uncle, but is there a person wise enough who can REALLY prove WILLIE MAYS was better then BABE RUTH , HENRY AARON OR MICKEY MANTLE. I doubt it, In short GEORGES DELERUE, JOHN WILLIAMS MIKLOS ROZSA, JERRY GOLDSMITH AND MANY OTHERS ARE ALL GREAT , better then my niece in composing music , sure. Better then each other, I don't think any human could prove which one was better, you may like and have a favorite, but you can't prove who was greater. That is a waste of one's time. However as far as liking DELERUE, SALTER, DESPLAT, GOLDSMITH, ROZSA[no order] ETC ETC ETC

It was Jerry Goldsmith, then it became James Horner, I think Danny Elfman, Bruce Broughton, Lee Holdridge and Basil Poledouris may have occupied it at some point and it's probably Jerry Goldsmith again now, but JOHN WILLIAMS has always been my number 1 (swoon!!!) smile
