I was cleaning the living room in my mother's house, and after I was finished, I came across the obituary column in the newspaper and read that Jerry Goldsmith had died. His death wasn't reported on the local news, though it did get some press coverage on Fox News. It was almost the equivalent of when John Lennon died.

FRED KARLIN [the sterile cuckoo, futureworld etc etc] was a morbid demise for me.In the twilight of his career, he did a book on film music. During the last year of his life I was contacting him through the mail on future ventures he was doing on such topics. Well after sending him something in the mail I was wondering why he was not responding. I found out a bit later when I read a older VARIETY issue, Fred had passed on a few weeks before.

The reporting of LON CHANEY JR'S death was very dramatic for me. He died a few days before the news media reported it.A personal crisis was the reason I will never forget it. At the time I was a kid and my mother was in the hospital having a serious operation, in which she did survive. I remember leaving the hospital in quiet vibes with my father going home saying little but wondering will the operation be a success or will we never see her again. I went into my room and read that Lon Chaney JR had passed away the combo events cleared my eyes out.

When J.B died , better known as JOHN BARRY. I did a little personal memorial of my own. Hearing about his passing, after work I decided to climb to the highest hill in my town which pretty much overlooked the center of town. When I reached it's peak I started humming some of John's beautiful themes he composed[WALKABOUT, THE LAST VALLEY ETC ETC]thinking all the time what his gift of musical talent did for the many moments of my life, making them nicer and sweeter. I can't judge the man on some moral plain since I did not know him personally but I hope John is in a better place now and want to thank him for making life better for me and apparently many others.R,I.P JOHN, where ever you are.
