I'm thinking of filing my 1040 form via free efile for the first time and don't owe any taxes.
I see there are a number of places to file, so any suggestions and comments on 1040 efiling?

I've used TurboTax in the past and had a good experience.

For federal taxes, I tend to use Turbotax.com - I can't compare it to the others, because I've always filed via Turbotax, but they make it fairly painless. The only thing you have to watch out for, is that they walk you through the state income tax forms, but then charge you $$ if you want them to file those for you. Just choose the federal forms only, and that's free.

Filing state and local/municipal taxes are really dependent on where you live, as far as how you can eFile, where you can eFile, and IF you can eFile. For Pennsylvania, you can just go to the state revenue department's website and quickly eFile. For municipal taxes, the forms they mail you will likely include eFile information if that's available.

You can use the IRS's free service, or I've used freetaxusa.com the last few years. Fast, easy, worry-free

I just read that the Heartbleed virus may have infected the IRS and H&R Block websites which makes me wary of the other websites, too.

THE IRS is apparently already suffering from a disease.

I recommend that you check the website for the state you live in. They may have special click-able links that will extend the free filing to your state taxes as well. Most websites charge for the state taxes without a coupon code or special link.

GUYS:

Thanks for the info. I filed via Turbotax. I had already filled out my 1040 on paper, and Turbotax was easier than I thought it would be.
