Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced and detailed The Rodgers & Hammerstein Collection. The eight-disc set will be available for purchase at Amazon.com on May 6th.
Songwriting team Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II brought melodies and words to life in some of the most iconic movie musicals of the 20th Century, and now Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment plans to bring that magic home with The Rodgers & Hammerstein Blu-ray Collection on May 6. This Amazon-exclusive collection will feature six of the 15-time Academy Award™- winning movie musicals by the Oscar™- Tony™- Pulitzer™- Grammy™- Emmy™-Award-winning team of Rodgers & Hammerstein, including Best Picture winner The Sound of Music, Oklahoma!, The King and I, South Pacific, State Fair and Carousel.
The set features brand new 4K digital restorations of The King and I and Carousel, the only two films made in CinemaScope55, and Oklahoma! meticulously restored in 4K from 8K scans of 65mm Todd-AO film elements in its original road show version at the unusual original frame rate of 30 frames per second.
Bonus materials include a Sing-A-Long version of The King and I for die-hard musical theatre lovers and more than an hour of behind-the-scenes features for Oklahoma!. Fox will release Oklahoma! and The King and I in stand-alone Blu-ray and DVD combo packs October 7 in commemoration of their 60th anniversaries in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
The restored version of Oklahoma! will open the TCM Classic Film Festival at Hollywood's TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX® on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

Except for the screw-up of the dusk scene looking like high noon, following the Ent'racte, and the muted soundtrack which required a major amplification boost, and is inferior to the PCM uncompressed laserdisc soundtrack. Still, even with these, it just may be the finest Blu-ray release, ever. It's so beautiful. Frankly, I find the "collection" a disgrace, that Fox should be ashamed to have released. The prints of CAROUSEL and, particularly, THE KING AND I are horrendous. I hope their sales are lousy. People need to stop turning over their hard-earned money for such inferior product.

I've missed it again! I'm having horrible back problems and spent much of yesterday at Kaiser. For the past 5 days I've been unable to get into a comfortable position to sleep, so I spend the entire night in an uncomfortable position, sometimes drifting off to sleep for 20 or 30 minutes, but most of the time trying unsuccessfully to get to sleep, and that's been going on since Tuesday night!
As for this R&H Blu-ray Collection, some consumers seem to think it's wonderful, while other consumers have just the opposite view. Why such a wide disparity of opinion?

Was it, seriously, that difficult to tell that I was speaking of OKLAHOMA! when I said the finest Blu-ray, and the rest of the box set is lousy, making the box set, lousy? STATE FAIR is on the dark and brown side, CAROUSEL is too dark and on the blue side, and THE KING AND I has a major blue tint over the entire film. Also, the botched day for night scene in OKLAHOMA! and an inferior soundtrack (when compared to the laserdisc, imo), make this a lousy box set, which is not deserving of our hard-earned money (at least mine is hard-earned). Other than the sound and that one scene in OK, it is the finest-looking Blu-ray I've ever seen. That doesn't mean the entire box fits that description, because it doesn't even come close. Fox should be ashamed of this release.
Adding: I just re-read my original post, and I suppose it was confusing what I was referring to, which was Ron's post about OKLAHOMA! directly above it.

Apologies if this has already been covered.
Does anyone know if the Oklahoma Blu Ray is taken from 70mm components. In other words, does it contain an overture which then seamlessly, and magnificently, segues into the main title?
Please correct me if my memory is playing tricks.
The box set contains the 35MM Cinemascope version and the superior 70MM Todd-AO version. My comment on the best-looking Blu-ray, ever, is for the Todd-AO version. I have not even seen the Cinemascope one. The Todd-AO version is at 30 frames per second vs. standard 24 frames per second, making for a jaw-dropping image. Just incredible.
