Even the first one is "mind-numbingly humdrum" on level of lazy and tired TV scoring on a bad day. With the 2nd one even more boring than that I am not sure I will bother with the third, not to mention that the only memorable thing about whole series is not even from JNH's head. He could be excused with the first one considering how little time he had to do it, but with the 2nd there is just no excuse for something this mediocre and super boring in such a high profile and musicly attractive series. Someone needs a looooooong time off.
The two (so far) scores by JNH for the Hunger Games franchise are now my favorite works he's ever written. I am utterly captivated by them from A to Z and never tire (or stop) listening to them. His work on the franchise so far is genius.
I am spectaculary upbeat and optimistic about the scores for Mockingjay Pts. 1 and 2. Having fallen head over heels in love with the first two scores and having just finished the third book in the trilogy, I am sure JNH will be provided ample emotional and epic terrain to wrap up the series with and I have no doubt he will deliver.
There is not a score in 2014 and 2015 that I am looking forward to more than the Mockingjay film scores. To drive the point home, I am more excited about these upcoming scores than anything by Beltrami!
Wow. Surprising amount of disagreement on this. I'm very excited for the third (and fourth) film but I don't expect I will be picking up the score. I also find the first two rather boring but then unless they bring in another director who takes a different style then I don't expect it will be any different.
The irony is that Francis Lawrence directed Water for Elephants and that has one of my favorite recent JNH scores.
