MONDAY, APRIL 14
GAME OF THRONES---spoiler alert (see below).
THE WALKING DEAD---four new novels written by Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga will be published. The first novel is titled THE WALKING DEAD: DESCENT and has Lilly Caul attempting to rebuild Woodbury after the Governor's failed attack. It will be published on October 14.
Also, Kirkman commented on Season 5, "I just turned in the second episode script for season five, and all the writers are hard at work on their individual episodes. We're pretty much halfway through the fifth season, script-wise. And we've already nailed down what our finale is, and what our overall arc of the season is. The back half of the season is taking shape very quickly, and we'll have all the scripts written by the summer."
He added about who will play Neegan in the spin-off series, "As far as Negan casting goes, Scott and I are always talking about who we would put in that, it's definitely on our minds, and there are definitely a lot of candidates. But I wouldn't expect Negan too terribly soon, although he is definitely in the plan. It's a 99% lock that he's going to be in the show eventually, so be on the lookout for that."
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII---Harrison Ford was asked about the controversy of whether Han Solo or Greedo shot first, “I don't know and I don't care.” When asked if Han is still in a fight with Lando Calrissian, he also jokingly replied, “Lando who?”
Ford said he appeared in two sequels although he had not seen the original movies, “I hadn't seen ANCHORMAN, it was only one day's work, and I knew that it was very popular, and I admired the talents of the people involved, so I went to do it and had a great time, I enjoyed it. I still haven't seen it though.” On appearing in THE EXPENDABLES 3, he said, “I was on my way to Indonesia to do YEARS OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY, and halfway around the world. And the location for EXPENDABLES was right on the way, and they asked me for a relatively short period of time, and it seemed like fun. I hadn't seen the films but I looked one of them and i thought it was kind of funny, so I thought why not?”
Benedict Cumberbatch commented on rumors that he is co-starring in the sequel and might also appear in DOCTOR WHO, "I would've liked a part in JJ's [Abrams] new Star Wars but it won't happen sadly...I'm never gonna play The Doctor, & nothing to do with the Whoniverse." Last year, Cumberbatch also denied he was co-starring in another JJ Abrams movie: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.
AVATAR---James Cameron commented on the status of the sequels, "The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously. They're essentially all in preproduction now, because we are designing creatures, settings, and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks...." He commented on rumors that Arnold Schwarzenegger will play a villain in the sequels, "As of right now, he and I have not discussed it, and I don't see a role as the scripts are coming together that would be appropriate for him, so I would say probably not."
JAMES BOND---Pierce Brosnan commented on playing James Bond from 1995 to 2002, "I have no desire to watch myself as James Bond. 'Cause it's just never good enough. It's a horrible feeling...
I felt I was caught in a time warp between Roger and Sean. It was a very hard one to grasp the meaning of, for me. The violence was never real, the brute force of the man was never palpable.
It was quite tame, and the characterization didn't have a follow-through of reality, it was surface. But then that might have had to do with my own insecurities in playing him as well."
He added that he appreciates the opportunity to have played 007, "It's the gift that keeps on giving, that allowed me to create my own production company and make my own movies."
THE EXPANSE---Syfy ordered ten episodes of the series based on the novel trilogy set 200 years in the future in which a detective and a rogue spaceship captain team up to find a missing girl and uncover the greatest conspiracy in history. Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby (IRON MAN, CHILDREN OF MEN) are the writers/executive producers.
GEOSTORM---Gerard Butler stars in this sci fi movie from Dean Devlin (INDEPENDENCE DAY) in which a satellite engineer and his estranged brother must stop a massive storm caused by malfunctioning weather satellites and a plot to assassinate the President of the United States.
EAST OF EDEN---director Gary Ross and his HUNGER GAMES star Jennifer Lawrence plan to reunite for a remake of the 1955 Elia Kazan movie based on the John Steinbeck novel. Ross said, "The Kazan film, which is brilliant, only deals with about the last third of the novel. It deals with Cal and Aron Trask when they're already almost adults. The novel begins much earlier, just after the Civil War. Deals with a generation earlier. It's really remarkable.
It may be two films. We may break it in half, into one generation and the next. And that's what we're talking about now..."
KUNG FU---Baz Luhrmann (THE GREAT GATSBY, MOULIN ROUGE) is in talks to direct the movie remake of the 1970s ABC series that starred David Carradine.
THE OPERATORS---Brad Pitt may star in this movie based on the book about the rise and fall of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, commander of US and international military forces in Afghanistan. David Michod (ANIMAL KINGDOM) is the director.
TUSK---Johnny Depp will play a French-Canadian police inspector investigating a case of a man wearing a walrus costume in this Kevin Smith monster movie. Justin Long, Michael Parks and Haley Joel Osment also star.
THE FINAL GIRLS---Sony Pictures comedy horror movie starring Nina Dobrev (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) and Malin Akerman (WATCHMEN) in which a group of friends are mysteriously transported into a cult 1980s slasher movie that starred the deceased scream queen mother of a member of the group. They must try to avoid being the movie killer's next victims.
