I suppose this was always going to be a RCP gig anyway. At least they picked the best RCP member for the job.
Should be interesting to see how Hans Zimmer handles the Batman side. Can't remember the last time I heard two different approaches for the same character by the same composer.
Must be a generation thing. I'm old. Whatever enjoyment I get out of these movies little to none derives from the music. In some cases the music has worked against my enjoyment. Dark Knight Rises is the most headache-inducing thing I've ever seen//heard. Zimmer turned up to 11 ON TOP of deafening sound effects! Get me outta here! Man of Steel, better but still noise atop noise for the third act. It is boring complaining about Z but I admit to being baffled by those eager for his every assignment and who enjoy his hero scores as stand alone listening. And I've enjoyed him well enough when not in blockbuster mode. His work on 12 Years a Slave was strong and I was even sorry he wasn't Oscar nominated for it. Fine with the old Daisy/Backdraft/Thelma & Louise Zimmer. But does every big picture have to have his stamp now? One of the reasons I was excited by Thomas Newman getting Skyfall was that I had no idea how it would sound. It was casting against type and I think it paid off there, but I guess when your movie cost half a billion dollars to make and market, you're not likely to go for that sort of thing often.
"The suits don't want variety. They want a sure fire hit and believe conformity guarantees success. Anything different is a risk to the stock holders and billion dollar investors."
Which is ironic, because most of the time the score dub is so soft it doesn't matter what the music is because you can't really hear it.
