at the time of film's release.

FIRST BORN - 30 years for the score to finally come out. Thank you INTRADA.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8o_1trkZ6s

THE KARATE KID - 22 years for the score to finally come out. Thank you VARESE.

What was the studio thinking back then? The re-teamed ROCKY people, Avildsen & Conti and hit stand up and cheer film and they didn't release Conti's score? Lost opportunity to the max. Conti's ROCKY was a major big Soundtrack release hit. Did they not have any good marketing people back then? I guess not.

can you think of more?

Years ago soundtrack releases never made much sense,After the hit 10,-79-6 of the next 7 MANCINI soundtracks don't come out on LP'S, after SCHRIFRIN'S THE AMITYVILLE HORROR-79 only 2 of the next 12 Lalo soundtracks came out on LP. ETC ETC, They were very picky years ago.

One of my most wanted Giorgio Moroder's score to OVER THE TOP (1987).

Fright Night (1985) - unfortunately it seems it took too long to be released - and the first generation recordings were lost in the meantime... - good that Intrada managed to release it from the best source they had availble.

Beverly Hills Cop

Iron Eagle, if you count song albums that were released on CD as well and not just LP.

Top Gun leaps to mind. Also another vote for Beverly Hills Cop, especially baffling since the one score track on the album, 'Axel F,' was a MAJOR hit (it hit #3 in 1985). It's almost like someone said, "That Faltermeyer track is blowing up... let's not let that happen again." And then came Beverly Hills Cop 2 and they made sure that NO score tracks accompanied the song album release.

Faltermeyer is the king of this particular 'dilemma'.

As recently mentioned in another thread..... http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=102850&forumID=1&archive=0

FLASHDANCE desperately needs an upgrade in it's current soundtrack - there has never been any "score" section ever released other than the album track of the "Love Theme".

I would also like "Beverly Hills Cop" - Once again, there is an album track on the Axel F Theme, but no score. "The Heat Is On" is definitely one of the best songs of the 80s!

"Top Gun" - a so called "Special Edition" has been released with the a never before released album track of "Memories" - but still no film score. The "Top Gun Anthem" was always an Album Track.

I would also like to see an expanded version of "Over The Top".

I hadn't thought of this but you're right. Moroder and Faltermeyer got instrumentals tracks on the radio (pun intended), something hardly anybody did then, yet we were denied MORE of what we were obviously willing to buy!

Like most movie score fans my age, Faltermeyer's scores from Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2, Top Gun and Fletch are holy grails when it comes to an official release. Bizarrely, The Running Man got an almost full release and I don't regard it as one of his most exciting scores. It's very good but not as much fun, in my view.

I'll also add At Close Range, by Patrick Leonard. I'm acutely aware that most of the score consists of variations of the Madonna song "Live to Tell" but only one score track has ever been released, and that was on the Best of Hemdale compilation. I wouldn't mind a more comprehensive release, regardless of the repetition.

Many of those albums you guys list at least have a score track or two.

80s albums with ZERO score on them:

Tuff Turf - Jonathan Elias
Rude Awakening - Jonathan Elias
Revenge Of The Nerds - Thomas Newman
Where The Boys Are - Sylvester Levay
Body Rock - Sylvester Levay
Burglar - Sylvester Levay
Vision Quest - Tangerine Dream
Girls Just Want To Have Fun - Thomas Newman
Beverly Hills Cop II - Harold Faltermeyer
Fatal Beauty - Harold Faltermeyer
Less Than Zero - Thomas Newman
Some Kind Of Wonderful - Stephen Hague, John Musser
The Wraith - Michael Hoenig, J. Peter Robinson
Johnny Be Goode - Jay Ferguson
License To Drive - Jay Ferguson

I wonder if we will ever see any of these scores be released?

If memory serves, Vision Quest had a short score, but was one of TD's best ones. Was very disappointed they didn't even include a short suite or a "theme" track.

A short score indeed. I remember spotting the Vision Quest LP in a shop many years ago. Strange to see "MUSIC BY TANGERINE DREAM" in big letters in the film credits on the back cover, but no TD material on the album... :-(

Back to the Future had an LP release album that only had pop songs. But now we finally have the film score. Thank you INTRADA
