The PETER CUSHING series from the 60's. Any word?, any chance?
There are of course a handful of episodes on dvd. All there is so far. But then you probably knew that. At least one of them is Hound of the Baskervilles, which makes it easy to compare with Cushing's own Hammer Films version.

I wouldn't hold out much hope, but you never know - after all, episodes from that era's "Doctor Who" are still turning up...
Cushing has always been a hero of mine, together with Christopher Lee of course. But Cushing has that urbane sound to his voice. A real comfort in the face of all the diabolical deeds occurring in most of his films. I grew up watching the Hammer films on tv.
I was a little too young to appreciate the fact he was playing my favourite fictional hero of them all in his two Dalek movies, on release, being around four years old at the time!, but certainly did when was old enough to. Of course, if he'd ever played the 'real' thing on tv I would have been over the moon. I suspect his 'own' version of The Doctor (as opposed to a version of the Hartnell one), would have been more Holmesian or along the lines of Van Helsing and therefore more like the Jon Pertwee model.
I do remember his Holmes series, though not well, and once again it seems bizarre that an outfit like the BBC would wipe such great television. We know their reasons for doing so, but they were terribly guilty of a lack of being forward looking. They themselves at the time of the 'great purge' of many BBC classics, celebrated the great movie heroes of the past, Laurel and Hardy being especially singled out for constant showings and thus keeping them alive for generations. The fact that they didn't see neither the future monetary or historic value of their rich high quality output is incredible to us now.
