THE EXPENDABLES 3---new photos released from the sequel showing the cast including Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Wesley Snipes, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford and director Patrick Hughes.
Director Patrick Hughes explained how Mel Gibson became the sequel's villain, "I remember I was working in the office and Sly came in one day and said, 'Hey what do you think about Mel Gibson for the villain?' and I was like, 'Dude that's the best idea you've had all day,' and he goes 'Yeah, yeah I think so too.' Then I literally watched him dial a number on his phone and he went, 'Hey Mel!' and he pitched it to him and Sly hung up and he goes, 'Yeah I think he's gonna do it.'"
Stallone commented on other actors he wanted, "Clint (Eastwood) is so involved in what he's doing, that's kind of a pipe dream. I was going to go with Jack Nicholson, and we just got there a little too late, because he had said he might be interested...I want to get, if possible, the most unique actors from the past and just put them on there once and for all, if we can. It just seems like an interesting quest to just do that, because I don't know if it's ever going to happen again, you know what I mean? And we're sort of not getting any younger. So we're very lucky and we're gonna keep going."
TOP GUN 2---producer Jerry Bruckheimer commented on the sequel's plot, "...technology has changed obviously since we made the first one. So I think we're going to take advantage of what the world is like today, with the drones kinda taking over a lot of our wars today, but is the pilot obsolete? Those jet jockeys, are they gone now? No, I don't think so, I think they're going to be around for quite a while. Because you still have to make quick decisions and the pilots who want to make quick decisions, so we're going to hopefully highlight both worlds."
Bruckheimer said about the latest BEVERLY HILLS COP sequel, "We're in the process of getting the script finished. Paramount is very excited about making it, Eddie [Murphy] is very excited, Brett Ratner is excited about doing it, so I think we're moving forward. Hopefully we'll start end of summer, beginning of fall and get rolling on it. We're going to take Eddie back to Detroit - he's going to be in Beverly Hills and we take him to Detroit. So we're going to have some fun with him, he's really excited about doing it."
He added about the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, "Johnny [Depp] is excited about it, obviously Disney is, we're excited about it. So hopefully we'll get that going this fall or end of the year if everything lines up properly."
MRS. DOUBTFIRE---sequel underway to the 1993 movie with Robin Williams and director Chris Columbus returning. The script is by David Berenbaum (ELF). Mara Wilson, who starred in the original movie as the youngest daughter, commented, “I've been in some mediocre movies, but I've never been in a sequel. And I have no interest in being in one now. Sequels generally suck unless they were planned as part of a trilogy or series. I think ‘Doubtfire’ ended where it needed to end.”
THE WORLD WARS---History three-part miniseries about World Wars I and II from the perspectives of Franklin Roosevelt, Adolf Hitler, Gen. George S. Patton, Winston Churchill, Benito Mussolini, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, Gen. Charles DeGaulle and Hideki Tojo. Jeremy Renner is the narrator with contributions from Sen. John McCain, Gen. Colin Powell, Leon Panetta, Prime Minister John Major and others. Premiere is on Memorial Day, May 26.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII---an Abu Dabi newspaper photographer took a photo from the desert film set showing a large round prop on the left side of the photo. Speculation is the prop could be the foot of an Imperial AT-AT vehicle or an escape pod from Tatooine in EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE.
THE RAID---director Patrick Hughes commented on the US remake of the hit Indonesian movie, "Certainly, we're not there to recreate that film beat for beat, with the set up we're following a DEA task team, which was implemented by the Bush administration after September 11th when they realized that terrorism and the drug trade were so closely aligned.
So they set up a DEA task team that's six units and they work across borders and sort of act like Navy SEALS. You never read about it, you never hear about it, but they go on these missions."
THE HOBBIT---a source said the New Line has registered a new title, THE HOBBIT: INTO THE FIRE, which could replace the original title THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN.
FARGO---the FX miniseries premiere drew an impressive 4.1 million viewers. Also, FX renewed THE AMERICANS for Season 3.
GARBO AND DIETRICH---untitled tv series underway from the producers of THE L WORD about the relationship between Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich. The series will also explore their interaction with stars including Barbara Stanwyck, Cary Grant and John Wayne. Megan Ellison, daughter of Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, is the executive producer.
ARROW---executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said about the Season 3, "We're gonna start season three with Oliver in very different circumstances than he's been before. Obviously, him being in different circumstances changes the circumstances of his paid bodyguard and paid assistant, since he can no longer pay them... you'll see that some of our familiar standing sets from Season 1 and 2 that you've come to know and love as being Arrow, are gonna be retired for reasons that will become apparent, as you see [in] these last episodes."
PUSS IN BOOTS---Antonio Banderas said the sequel is underway at DreamWorks Animation. The studio is also developing a movie HOT STUFF THE LITTLE DEVIL that is based on the devilish comic character that first appeared in 1957.
