I've recently spotted these two albums on eBay - "Briarcliff Orchestra Plays" (US Harmony HS 11404) and "Everybody's Talkin'" by the Pete Moore Orchestra (UK Rediffusion ZS 98). I'm not sure how I post images, but the track listings are remarkably similar as they both include the following film themes:

Come Saturday morning
Downhill racer
Jean
Z
Midnight cowboy
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
True Grit
Darling Lili

The only differences are that the Pete Moore album has extra non-film tracks, and the Briarcliff LP credits the Barry theme for MC, while the Pete Moore LP has "Everybody's talkin'". It is of course perfectly possible that these are two very separate entities as these themes (except one, see below)were very popular at the time, but I was just curious to know if they are perhaps the same recordings repackaged for the UK and US markets. As far as I'm aware these/this are/is the only recording(s) of Kenyon Hopkins theme from "Downhill Racer", which is what makes me think these may possibly be identical albums.

There are mp3 samples of the some of the Pete Moore tracks on Amazon but I haven't as yet found the Briarcliff versions to compare them with:

I don't know anything about the albums that you mention, but Hopkins' DOWNHILL RACER theme also appeared on a Living Strings album (RCA Camden CAS-2420):

DOWNHILL RACER also appeared on a 1970 album by Joe Scott and His Orchestra: "Motion Pictures - The Now Generation" (Mainstream MRL-301).

Here's the Briarcliff Orchestra album cover (Harmony HS-11404, 1970):

Neither the front cover, nor the back cover, nor the actual record label for this album mention the name of the conductor. But on the previous Harmony album from the Briarcliff Orchestra (HS-11364, 1969), the conductor is listed as Eric Lars (see last words on cover below).

Of course, it's possible that the "Briarcliff" name could just be a catch-all label to disguise a number of different orchestras and conductors.

Many thanks for the Downhill Racer info, Bob. I knew you'd be able to help!

My Briarcliff/Moore theory seems to be crumbling before my eyes and it would seem that they are unrelated recordings after all...
