Here is an enjoyable track from Jankel's "rejected" K2 score:

Loved the score. It fit the film perfect. I preferred it to Zimmer's.

Those guitar riffs!

It's pretty good (and thanks for sharing), but nowhere near the brilliance of Zimmer's effort -- IMO one of his best scores.

Jankel's score was the replacement score as shown in the US. Zimmer's score was shown in European prints (much like Goldsmith/Tangerine Dream & Legend).

I love this Zimmer score, one of my favorties from him. Would love to see a release of Jankel's music to this film.

I have seen many claims over the years that Chaz's score was pretty much a paraphrase of Pink Floyd material ("Wish You Were Here") in particular. No doubt that this is something that the producers would have asked for.

Have seen him live with the Blockheads. Unbelievable musicians. Esppecially norman watt Roy on bass!

Sounds more like Vangelis (Opera Sauvage period) to me than Pink Floyd. I too would welcome a release.

Agreed. If I'm judging by that track alone, it sounds nothing like Pink Floyd in any incarnation. But Vangelis -- a sort of watered-out, more poppy version -- I can hear.

Me too. Saw them with Ian Dury numerous times back in the day, incredible band.

I've always liked Zimmer's score but I think I'd like Jankel's more.

Have a listen here Thor, the Pink Floyd influence is MASSIVE, very Wish You Were Here though I'd say there's a very strong Roy Buchanan/Jeff Beck sound to the guitar work.

Complete with sound effects I'm afraid but you'll get the gist if you can't put up with that for too long...

Useless trivia - Chaz is the brother of Annabelle Jankel, who co-created Max Headroom.

OK, OK...now I see your point, Timmer. That one was clearly molded on PF.

She hired her brother on DOA in 1988. A pity he didn't do Super Mario Bros for her in 1993. They went the safer route with Silvestri instead.

Certainly. DOA is one of my favorite scores. Ever.

Wow! Some parts of that second cue sound like they're coming right from The Division Bell. Literally!

Agreed -- or WISH YOU WERE HERE, at least. When I posted that, I had only heard the first clip (which sounds nothing like Pink Floyd).

Listening to Zimmer's K2 again now, one of my top 10 favourites of him. It reminded me of this thread.

What are the chances we'll ever get an album of Jankel's score?

Would love a proper album of Zimmer's score! These two suites are just too long for me! lol!

Love the suites, perfectly capturing an ascent and a descent.
