While I agree with this, she's hardly 10% of this self-serious Victorian borefest. I admit to having only watched the pilot, but it seemed as though every actor was either comatose or under a trance -- methods which might befit some wild production but this thing could use some aloofness.
Music Composed by Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man, W.E., Romeo &?Juliet)
Some of literature’s most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. PENNY DREADFUL is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama starring Timothy Dalton, Josh Hartnett and Eva Green.
The dark and richly textured Gothic score is by one of the most exciting new names in film music, Abel Korzeniowski.
PENNY?DREADFUL is currently unspooling its first season on Showtime.
I have to say I'm SO SO happy this is begin released on August 19th so that folks who come to Fans of Film Music 5 will be able to pick this up and get it autographed by Abel on August 30th.

I had to stop watching - it came across as Once Upon A Time* for people who think they're (apologies if this phrase sounds dated) too cool for school - but it wasn't the music's fault. Let's just hope this doesn't fall victim to any Bates Motel-type delays.
*A show I like, and am (still) cross with its UK channel for dropping. C'mon, DVDs, where are you?

The situation with Bates is quite simple, Universal made some deep changes to it's television department which most likely held up the release. I doubt Showtime will be an issue for Varese.
A terrific, beautiful show. And the last episode i've seen -- ep05 CLOSER THAN SISTERS -- is simply an anthologic piece of achievement. And its score, a pure bliss.
So happy this is coming out. Just watched the final episode last night and the music really MAKES this show. Beautiful moving stuff. Can't wait for the cd.

Given Universal seems to have trouble even sticking with a NAME for its television department ("Open 4 Business Productions"? Seriously?), I can believe that. Thanks for clearing it up.
Anyone going to the Fans of Film Music 5 who might be able to get a me a copy of this one autographed by composer Abel Korzeniowski? If you might be able to help, please, contact me through e-mail listed in my profile and surely we can make a deal...
So bumping this because I've gotten a chance to listen to this score. Though it is certainly gothic as described, I find it to be very uninspiring overall. None of the themes seem to really grab me or have much to say.

Yup, sadly I have to agree with this. ROMEO & JULIET and ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW are vastly superior works. Here's hoping for a more inspired piece from him next. He's a highly capable musician.
Can't say I agree with any of you two. I love it and think it's one of the best things I've heard in TV as far as I can remember. It's pure Korzeniowski and you can clearly hear his sensibilities. Of course Romeo & Juliet is amazing, so if you compare it to his previous works it might not be better then R&J. I pretty much agree with Jonathan Broxton's review, actually all reviews I've read praise the score quite a bit which makes me happy.
Welcome To The Grand Guignol, Closer Than Sisters, Black Hand of God... I think the themes sound beautiful. Maybe you'll enjoy it more the second time.
