As I recall, Barbra saw how some of the other musicals were faring and she was the one who suggested to Paramount that it be cut down.

Over at Home Theatre Forum and the Blu-ray forum, it has apparently been brought up that the new Blu-ray of Thoroughly Modern Millie from Kino only has the roadshow portions (Overture, Entr’Acte, and Exit Music) in mono despite appearing in stereo on the DVD. When the KL Insider was asked about this, his response was that the mono was all Universal had for those bits. Would you by any chance be able to weigh in on this, Mr. Matessino?

I'll look into it. Activities related to video mastering do not cross over with what the music department is doing as much as they should. TMM is not something that's come up at all on my end. I will take this thread-bump opportunity, however, in case I haven't said so elsewhere, to say that there was a plan for La-La Land to follow up the 50th anniversary release of Doctor Dolittle with one for Hello, Dolly in 2019, but the original mags had gone so far into extreme vinegar syndrome as to be past saving. Of course, we were also dealing with Nick Redman's passing and the Disney merger at the same time so the agenda was to get as much material in hand as possible for releases they wanted to do (such as the Apes series and Williams disaster scores). The Dolly! material, as well as Star!, had never been transferred because there was never anything that could have been done with it in past years due to Universal Music Group controlling the soundtrack rights. Within the last decade, of course, dual licenses with them became feasible. We saved Dolittle just under the wire, Dolly and Star! have deteriorated.

I didn't see them myself, but our stalwart Ron Fuglsby, who retired from Fox at the exact same time as Nick's passing and the Disney merger, said that he nearly passed out when he opened the first can. I don't know anything beyond that but I believe they were all marked toxic.

Oh, and is a complete Thoroughly Modern Millie on the cards? The MCA CD is awful. It's better than having nothing.

Yes, you have to scroll up. The Dolly material was declared toxic and untransferable four years ago. This was right before the Disney merger and I don't know the fate of the physical assets.
