Independent U.S. distributors Grindhouse Releasing have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Ruggero Deodato's controversial cult film Cannibal Holocaust (1980), starring Robert Kerman, Francesca Ciardi, Perry Pirkanen, Luca Barbareschi, Carl Gabriel Yorke and Ricardo Fuentes. The release will be available for purchase on July 1. Synopsis: Banned and heavily censored the world over, here is a film that surpasses its reputation as a shot-gun blast to the senses. Cannibal Holocaust presents the "found footage" of a group of four documentary filmmakers who experience brutal death at the hands of a savage South American tribe of flesh-eaters. This footage is so intense, so graphic and so unflinching in its realism that the director and producer of Cannibal Holocaust were arrested upon its original release and the film seized. I posted this on Google + in there immensely popular Horror films thread which some of you might find interesting: Cannibal Holocaust (1980) Director: Ruggero Deodato Has anything committed to celluloid before or since been more gruesome or shockingly repugnant? Say what you want about its style being innovative or its subject being a forerunner to films like 'The Blair Witch Project', (both of which are true) its overwhelming artistic failure is the clumsily artificial and superficial depiction of its characters especially in the original camera crew's transition from curious explorers to savage rapists and killers.
