For Transformers the original 1984 score (by R J Walsh) I will order about 50 piecese for my club here in Italy.
For Masters of the Universe 50 pieces.
For an Hanna-Barbera anthology wit ALL the title tunes and some back ground music (Shazzan, Butch Cassidy, Wheelie, etc) al least 100 copies for me and my club.
For a complete compilation of Shuky Levy / Saban tv tunes, with the italian versions included (and maybe also with the french and spanish versions), at least 100 - 150 copies for my club.
And so on.

I'm guessing which I am always wrong lol.....if there were a possible G.I. Joe (1983-87) & The Transformers (1984-87) tv sdtk..each series would be a 2 CD set.

Not sure if there would be any legal issues w/any songs from G.I. Joe, ex: "Cold Slither."

wink

Johnny Douglas' scores from Dungeons and Dragons, Spidey and his Amazing Friends and Incredible Hulk are what I'd most like, though I'd buy any further Masters of the Universe release too. Sadly, from what I gather on here, Douglas' work seems lost to time.

Out of curiosity, how possible would it be to put out Michael Tavera's scores for The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 / Super Mario World, and Shuki Levy / Haim Saban's Super Mario Bros. Super Show?

Thanks

I don't know about the SMB3 and SMW cartoon scores, but from what I understand, the rights to the music from the original Super Show is owned by - ulp - Disney. If we're having this much trouble convincing people of the merits of the DuckTales score, imagine how much fans would have to fight for the SMB Super Show! (And I'm among those fans: despite being a low-budget all-synth production, the Super Show had a very charming sound to it.)

After this, and MV's earlier post about how TV scores almost never sell well, I kinda wish there were counseling services for TV score fans.

'Cause this is all unbelievably depressing.

HOW many years ago was it we were promised Ron Walsh's music from The Transformers would be released?

I would love Spiderman and his Amazing friends too!
Marvellous music!

It's a small thing, but Shuki Levy has put many of his animated themes up on his site: http://shukilevy.com/themes-and-scores/

This includes songs, of course, but also the instrumental opening to cartoons like X-Men and Spider-Man: TAS.

great present from mr Levy this tracklist is (master Yoda mode ^_^), but I would like to get the WAV on an audio cd, I'm not interested in poor quality mp3.
And possibly ALL the rare tunes he comoposed, in ALL the languages they have been sung (Italian, Spanish, French, American).
Rainbow Brite, Spider Woman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Poochie, He-Man, She-Ra, Minky Momo, Superbook, Ulysses 31, etc

The greatest, and sadly most remote, possibility to gain public awareness could result from Quentin Tarantino being suddenly bitten by the sci-fi bug, with all the influence of TV animated scores at his legal beck and call, regardless of the physical source. Lord Cthulhu knows that Michael Bay couldn't be bothered to do so with actual licensed films.

It's my understanding that Johnny Douglas did the majority of work for Transformers and GI Joe as well: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Douglas_(conductor)

Truth be told even fans of a certain thing like Star Trek don't give a BLEEP about the music. I have worked many Trek conventions in my day (both for GNP and LLL) and most Trekkies can care less about the music. The most popular thing to buy is usually a "Best of" compilation.

... Snip ...

By the time you are done doing a 4 cd set you have already spent upwards of $50k (sadly that sometimes doesn't even cover Union and publishing fees). If you sell this to 1000 people at $50 a pop you are breaking even. Great, now try and find 2000 more people who love the music as much as those first 1000 so you can pay the rest of the royalties (not too mention make a profit!)!

(It's not easy)

To be perfectly frank and honest with you we should be charging a premium for a lot of these releases (especially tv related) because the cost vs the return is kinda tragic.

MV

That is thoroughly depressing, though I'm grateful that you've stated it. Depending on how much of a premium it is, I'd rather pay it if it means we can continue to get these sort of TV score releases. I'd rather have the music and keep LLLR in business.

And when is there ever be another C.D. of Hanna-Barbera music with more Hoyt Curtin and Ted Nichols cues?

I was just reading again MV's post about how expensive is to release old animation soundtracks.
Although i don't know about these things and I'm sure he's right, I keep wondering how a small unknown company had released last year (I think), the soundtrack from the original master tapes of Ulysses 31, a 1981 animation series..

I'd love to have an official release of Christopher L. Stone's terrific Tale Spin scores (and include Wildcat's theme this time!).
