Well here's a shock, my CD arrived today.
I don't actually have it, the AHAE site sends everything by FedEd and FedEx attempted delivery today, but I was at work. But it'll be arriving at the FedEx store a block from my house tomorrow and I can pick it up there.
(Getting FedEx packages delivered is a NIGHTMARE if you live in a large apartment building with controlled access)
I was nervous that all the AHAE turmoil would mean I would never see this CD, but I should have it in hand tomorrow

Picked up my CD today at the FedEx store.
Tracks
1) Birds and Water Deer 9:59
2) Water 5:42
3) Sky 6:08
4) Landscape 5:04
Track 1 is propulsive, repetitive, but not especially melodic.
Track 2 is sort of ethereal, light and dream-like, a bit like the Carrington score.
Track 3 is my favorite on the album, it's exceptionally melodic. The first half is in the style of the Wonderland score, while the second half is the main theme from Everyday, which sadly never got an album. Track 4 is a gorgeous, darkly ominous piece that feels a bit like the music in The End of the Affair.
This is an expensive little oddity of an album that can only be ordered directly from a Korean religious cult, so I know it's not for everyone, lol, but Nyman fans will definitely enjoy it.

This has to be some kind of record. Ordered CD yesterday and it arrived today.
Cool! Interesting to know they're still fulfilling orders after the undignified end of their leader.

I might have to pick this up after all. I haven't been exposed to much of Michael's music and this just has too much weirdness associated with it to pass up. I honestly expected the company selling the CD to close shop months ago. Since the CD is produced by Michael's own label, I asked his sales rep if the CD will be available from Michael's own site. I'd rather order from Michael's site than the cult's, but getting any kind of information from Michael's reps about anything AHAE related has proven to be impossible. Michael's site claims to sell all CDs released by Michael's label, but makes no mention of the AHAE chamber piece which was released by Michael's label.
The IRS is working with Korean authorities to track Yoo's wealth in the US. So far the only arrests (and there have been dozens) have been of Koreans, but it'll be interesting see if any of his American employees/followers end up in hand cuffs.
I emailed the LSO, Michael Nyman's rep, and the publishing company (www.musicsalesclassical.com) that last year reported the upcoming release of the symphony. No one has said if the CD will go ahead, and from their emails, the whole scandal is (understandably) quit a touchy subject. The LSO's reply was the only normal and sensible reply I got and that basically said the LSO isn't involved with the release of the CD and consequently has no information about release plans.
Michael's manager and the Music Sales Classical rep both responded with the exact same legalese response that didn't answer the question. They were more concerned with feigning ignorance and denying any wrongdoing than with answering a rather simple yes/no/we don't know question. "We have no personal knowledge of the allegations." Whatever that means. If they're waiting for Yoo or his fugitive son to inform them in person about the allegations, I think they'll be waiting a while.

I have a sort of love-hate relationship with Nyman's music. The "Ahae" CD is more closer to the hate side. Maybe I should give it a second run through, but only the second half of the CD showed much promise to me.
I'm fine with film music composers re-branding their work as symphonies. Symphonies and concertos get performed in the concert hall, while film music doesn't. I don't know if it's just the publishing aspect of it (easier to get the scores for symphonies and concertos), but there is a boatload of terrible new concert music being commissioned and performed while good film music gets ignored.
