What a gorgeous film score, one of the best new film scores I have heard in a very very long time! Kaska writes in an extremely accessible manner that is both dynamic and beautiful.
This score reminds me of the good ole days when film scores were glorious to behold. My only other exposure to Kaska is the release of his "Tone Poems" conducted by Allan Wilson, this is another treasure. He also produced Rozsa's "THE RED HOUSE" on Intrada!!!
Both are available on Denouement CD's and they are both excellent, to say the least, especially "TWOTV" and available at Amazon His film score is $15.00 which is a steal for this knockout score.
Blimey, where was I when this film emerged? I missed it totally.
Is this the Vendee 'reverse template' revolution in the midst of the French Revolution? I remember writing a paper on this yonks ago. An interesting period with real lessons about how multi-faceted revolutions REALLY are, and how inaccessible to stereotyping, though they're always stereotyped afterwards.

You missed it, I'd guess, because it didn't get any wide distribution. The studio appears to be a small studio making family-friendly Catholic films; this is movie is advertised as a dramatization of the War in the Vendée with 250 characters under the age of 21 and not a drop of blood. Both the film and the score can be found on their website: http://www.navispictures.com/product_p/np-wotv.htm
It is good. The guy can sound uncannily like John Williams.
I don't think he sounds like Williams.
The War of the Vendée doesn't sound super Williamsy, but I'm surprised you don't hear it in the tone poems. Battle for Atlantis is tremendously like latter-day Williams -- if it were a movie score I'd have guessed it was temp tracked with Harry Potter and Star Wars prequels! -- and Scherzo for Strings is pretty Williams-like too. Haven't had the time to listen to the rest of that CD yet.
I would like to grab a copy of this CD but the only copy I can find is on Amazon USA for $15 and does not ship to the UK. Does anyone know how I can get one, or would anyone be willing to purchase and send me a copy? All expenses met of course. Thanks

Kev:
I could order one from Amazon for you, since I'm a prime member I think they will ship to Great Britain. I could check it out if you are interested??

Yes, I can hear some Williams influence in Kaska's music.
Thanks for the info and kind offer. I will see if I can order it direct from the site mastadge has provided and failing that, I will take up your kind offer, Mr Eastman, to grab a copy and send it to me. I will get back to you asap. Cheers!
Okay. That direct site charges $15 for the CD, which is fine, but then wants an additional $25 for postage to the UK!!! Mr Eastman, what postage costs would you incur, on top of the $15 CD price, sending it to my UK address? (my email, btw, is kmag (at) blueyonder (dot) co (dot) uk Cheers
Oops! Also thanks to mastadge who offered to send me a copy (I only just noticed). The cat is in the bag and on its way to me (30 minutes between order and despatch emails, pretty great going there).
