I'd buy the album re-mastered. All those MCA albums have been deleted for so long. I wonder if there's a problem licensing them from UMG?
Like with any of the majors, it's not so much a problem licensing from UME but the fact they have to CLEAR everything before giving out a license to reissue/expand.
I saw the film yesterday and really enjoyed it. How much music was missing or different on the album than was in the film? I want as much of this greats music as possible.
Hell, I would even purchase a remastered edition, if an expansion was not a possibility. But if the former was not possible either, then a re-recording would be really nice.
I am watching the film right now and I just realized that it's been 35 years now. It's a brilliant score and I think it deserves a proper (cough*FSM*cough) anniversary treatment along with Kilar's score!
It's actually a good album musically (performance and music included), but the sound is excruciatingly shrill, and it gets worse on an unforgiving high end system. So, we either need drastic improvement in the sound with remastering, or a complete new recording. Based on the quality of John Mauceri's performance of a brief excerpt ("Night Journeys") on his Hollywood Nightmares album, he would be an excellent conductor for a complete new recording.
