FRIDAY, MAY 23

STAR WARS---Disney and Lucasfilm announced that the STAR WARS spin-off movie will be directed by Gareth Edwards (GODZILLA), and the script will be written by Gary Whitta (THE BOOK OF ELI). Edwards said, "Ever since I saw STAR WARS I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm." Whiita added, "From the moment I first saw the original movie as a wide-eyed kid, STAR WARS has been the single most profound inspiration to my imagination and to my career as a writer. It is deeply special to me, so to be given the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing legacy, especially in collaboration with a film-maker as talented as Gareth, is literally a dream come true. I'm still pinching myself."
Speculation is the spin-off movie would feature Yoda or Boba Fett. The movie premiers on December 16, 2016.

FRANK MILLER'S SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR---new photos released from the sequel showing Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba.

THE SHINING---Alfonso Cuaron (GRAVITY) has reportedly been offered the directing job for THE SHINING prequel titled THE OVERLOOK HOTEL. A source said, "The ball is in Alfonso's court." The script is by Glen Mazzara (THE WALKING DEAD).

TWO AND A HALF MEN---Charlie Sheen said he wants to be in the series finale after CBS said Season 12 would the last season, "I hope they invite me into the final episode."

SHERLOCK---producer Mark Gatiss said Season 4 might start filming soon, "I can officially tell you that we are moving closer to agreeing some dates to shoot. If that sounds like a party line, it is. That is proper progress because Ben [Benedict Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman] are so busy and Stephen and myself are so busy, but actually trying to get everybody to interlock is — we have made significant progress."

BROADCHURCH---new cast members for Season 2 are: Eve Myles (TORCHWOOD), James D'Arcy (CLOUD ATLAS), Charlotte Rampling (DEXTER), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (WITHOUT A TRACE) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (BAD EDUCATION).

DJANGO UNCHAINED---Quentin Tarantino said he'd like to do a miniseries which includes deleted scenes from the movie, “I have about 90 minutes worth of material with ‘Django.’ It hasn't been seen. My idea, frankly, is to cut together a four-hour version of ‘Django Unchained. But I wouldn't show it like a four hour movie. I would cut it up into hour chapters. Like a four-part mini-series. And show it on cable television. Show it like an hour at a time..."

WHITNEY HOUSTON---Lifetime tv movie underway about Whitney Houston's tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown. Angela Bassett is the director.

THE CROWN---new Netflix series based on the play about Queen Elizabeth II's weekly audiences with the prime minister. Helen Mirren starred in the play.

A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST---photo of...

C'mon, that was a spoiler, Fisch! One of the fun things about Ted was not knowing about the cameos... I'm sure you wouldn't have done that had it been for The Walking Dead or Star Wars or something. mad

But I do thank you for this picture of the anti-Gwyneth (Jessica's been critical of GOOP for coming from the POV of people who are rolling in it, and Miss Paltrow's reportedly not a fan of JMA's The Honest Company).

This was in one of the trailers. Would've made for a nice surprise.

I agree about it being spoilery. OTOH, though, there are probably people who are fans of that trilogy and would like to see this cameo, but without knowing about it wouldn't necessarily want to see MacFarlane's movie. I'm in this position myself, being somewhat torn in my feelings toward MacFarlane and not sure I'd want to see the movie if not for this cameo, so part of me appreciates knowing about it even though I'd undoubtedly have enjoyed it a lot more if I'd somehow wound up seeing it without having known of the cameo, and had been surprised. Decisions, decisions...

Doc Brown is in the trailers for the film. So stop blaming Dragon.

Good grief if it's all so important stop coming to these type of threads.

Luckily I haven't seen the trailer, but that still doesn't let him off the hook for passing it along... never mind.

Seriously, if it's been in the trailer, it's not a spoiler.

True, but I just realized -- for the first time -- that Yoda only has three fingers!
