SeriƩs Aphonos reissued Krzysztof Komeda's DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES (THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS) onto vinyl ....

... and immanent from the U.K. is a reissue of C.A.M.'s Piero Umiliani I Piaceri Proibiti (1963) on LP!

.

Any FSMers aware of any more such titles?

I did see a new pressing of "Dr. No" on Capitol Records.

By the way, how old is considered vintage? And are you talking about reissues?

I was in a record store recently and saw a pretty new reissue of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", on red vinyl, but I don't know if 1975 is old enough to fit in the "vintage" category.

Also saw new reissues of "Blade Runner" (1982, although not really released in this form until the 1990s) and "This is Spinal Tap" (early 1980s).

man when i look at that Dance of the Vampires cover i just don't know what to think.
Isn't it high time graphic design moved away from that whole kid's collage approach?

Nothing formal regarding dates.

Basically pre-1980 / pre-compact disc is what I consider vintage.

yeah - I was referring to older albums getting reissued

Finders keepers records releases lots of vintage soundtracks on lp, singles and 10" records.

Lots of European stuff, but a while ago they had some George Duning and Alex North as well.

Also, Always keep an eye on www.hhv.de . Not a label, but they stock most of the recent soundtrack vinyl. It does tend to sell out quickly though

Unfortunately most of these soundtrack releases are nothing more than the ordinary 16-bit CDs running through a decent DAC into the cutting equipment to make the vinyl master. Other than the admittedly lovely looking artwork, and some nice looking coloured vinyl in many releases, you're not getting the true sound quality (given a decent turntable & stylus) benefits of an LP. You're better off with the unfutzed with CD, rather than something that isn't a true fully analogue sourced LP, and also doesn't sound as good as the 'pure' CD equivalent if from the same source.

Rarely, the files used to cut the vinyl master come from high-res sources, and the end product might well sound 'better' than the 16-bit CD, but that's very rare, and I have yet to see any modern soundtrack LPs that are honest - or even make any mention - about the sources used for each release...

Unfortunately many are just jumping on the current vinyl bandwagon, without going the extra mile to cut from the analogue masters, or higher res digital files back to analogue...

"Modern" soundtrack LPs predated the digital era.

Making mostly of these vinyl reissues novelty items.

If the case is hear vintage albums on newly made LP, I rather look for the original vintage release if available, even if presented only in one color, black.

I agree.

However, original Italian soundtracks on vinyl are scarce.

Noticing this new album of a C.A.M. record prompted me to create this thread.

For example, I could never locate a copy of Giovanni Fusco's DESERTO ROSSO (RED DESERT) and more recently developed an interest in hearing Armando Trovajoli's IL MITO.

Another extremely elusive vinyl soundtrack is the 1962 FIVE MILES TO MIDNIGHT (1962) by Mikis Theodroakis & Jacques Loussier, which was initially issued by the United Artists label but only in Germany (!).
[my Harkit CD of FIVE MILES TO MIDNIGHT is cherished by me since I'll likely never encounter it on vinyl]
