LA CIECA DI SORRENTO Music by CARLO SAVINA (KRONGOLD010)

La Cieca Di Sorrento (also known as Revenge of the Black Knight is a 1963 cloak and dagger film directed by Nick Nostro and based on the novel of the same name by Francesco Mastriani. Masked knights fight the cruel Tyrant Amedeo, tutor of the beautiful, rich and blind orphan Isabella. The knights are led by a young doctor who in the end will defeat Isabella's evil oppressor, give her her sight and marry her.
The music for this adventurous romantic film is the work of none less than world reknown Maestro Carlo Savina; music director of films such as The Godfather (1972), Amarcord (1973), The Bear (1988) and close collaborator of various great composers of the 20th century such as Morricone, Trovajoli, Rota, Nascimbene, Myers, Sondheim, Sarde and none less than the legendary Miklós Rózsa. The works of the latter were a profound influence on many movements of the score you are now lsitening to. Carlo Savina was a true master tunesmith, an incredibly talented arranger and a meticulous conductor. This sweeping, gorgeous score makes its world debut in any format 51 years after its recording on KRONOS RECORDS' THE GOLD COLLECTION and courtesy of BEAT Records.
Our tenth title in The Gold Collection is a truly golden title by one if the most important and versatile composers Classical Film music has ever know. A must for all fans of CARLO SAVINA and the immortal music of the GOLDEN AGE!

A must-get indeed from "master" Savina!

I've never heard this music before, but I feel this will be one of my favorite releases of 2014.

Another Savina title which I'm hankering for on CD is the 1964 Jayne Mansfield/Cameron Mitchell noir/trash vehicle called (alternately) DOG EAT DOG or WHEN STRANGERS MEET or EINER FRISST DEN ANDEREN or L'ORA DI UCCIDERE or ... smile

You go, Godwin ... go.

Kronos continues to knock it out of the park with these latest releases, and some of the best-looking covers in the biz too.

Another very impressive looking batch one of the composers that I am most interested in hearing more of is Carlo Savina those clips for his score sound very good.

The mouse pointer gravitates to maestro Savina.

the first and last scores are nice and all (Savina sounds like Herrmann), but I'm digging the middle score - apparently it's for a campy peplum film about the Gods and their wicked ways.

This batch looks fantastic. All three composers are somewhat underrated (or simply do not have enough releases). Romitelli does not have a large filmography, but the few available releases are particularly nice. And Savina has been in my top 3 lately...

They shall all be mine. I'm most familiar with Savina and have never been disappointed by his work.

All three composers are somewhat underrated (or simply do not have enough releases).

I feel Giombini is astonishingly underrepresented: including this new release, there are only 6 Giombini CDs, while his filmography on Imdb lists around 90 titles!

Therefore, I'm very happy Kronos Records gives him some deserved renewed attention!

I hope to purchase LA CIECA DI SORRENTO before September.

As for Savina's DOG EAT DOG, I recently learned that C.A.M. issued an LP at the time of the film titled L'ORA DI UCCIDERE ...

... and I hope Gruppo Sugar and C.A.M. still have that album master along with film session master tapes.

These first 10 KronGold titles, though, indicate that this line is devoted to historicals/epics, peplum or war films.

I do wish Godwin Borg will consider producing other genres (such as film noir, giallo, etc.) and expand the scope of his KronGold series...

I'm enjoying Vulcano. Exotic, straight ahead approach to the peplum. Pluto Kennedy, sounds way out.
