I love Cantinflas, and am one of the few, I'm sorry to say, who even loves George Sidney's Pepe. As to Roque Banos - I'm sure if I looked around I probably have some unopened CDs by him, but I happened to watch a very well directed and yet very bad movie called The Oxford Murders yesterday, and Banos did the score and it was superb - I'm sure the film was temped with nothing but Herrmann, but while keeping that flavor, certainly, he made it his own. Tracked down and purchased the CD immediately.

That's true (Oxford Murders is excellent and many others are)... sadly his Spanish scores are pretty much incomparable with his recent "Hollywood" output. Hopefully he'll deliver something as good as he used to when he was still in Spain. You should also check: 13 Rosas 800 Balas Alatriste Balada Triste de Trompeta La Caja Kovak La Comunidad Fragiles No Somos Nadie Obra Maestra Segunda Piel La Voz de su Amo Thanks for the suggestions. It usually happens when these talented folks get recruited to Hollywood because someone hears their stuff and wants what they do - until they get here, when they are forced to imitate temp tracks and other people's music - so the very reason they were hired, they are not allowed to do. It's a little sick, and I'm glad they haven't gotten to Rombi yet.

I love Cantinflas, and am one of the few, I'm sorry to say, who even loves George Sidney's Pepe. I liked this one too, Bruce...or, at least, I did back then....went twice that week. Love to see how it stands up today, and see (amongst other things) that terrific dance routine that Michael Callan and Matt Mattox did, and that thing with the typewriter that Debbie Reynolds & Cantinflas did ?. Where’s the DVD/Blu-Ray ?...... and is there a chance of an expanded score release ??? I have the shortened version on an anamorphic DVD - beautiful transfer - a friend from overseas gave it to me. I'm trying mightily to get Twilight Time to do it and I'm hoping they will. Maybe I could even do a commentary and I certainly have a rather large amount of fun memorabilia for the film.

The CD of The Oxford Murders arrived today and it's every bit as good outside of the film as it was in the film. Must get some others by Mr. Banos now, although I'd like to avoid some in that trailer, the ones that sound like they insisted he follow a temp track.
