U.S. distributors Kino Lorber have confirmed that they will release on Blu-ray director Michael Crichton's adventure film The Great Train Robbery (1978), starring Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland, Lesley-Anne Down, Alan Webb, Robert Lang, Michael Elphick, and Pamela Salem. The release is scheduled to arrive on the U.S. market in September.

This is such a fabulous movie, with one of all time favourite Goldsmith scores.

Many professional film directors would have dreamed with having half of the narration and visual talent of the so-called amateur film director Michael Crichton !

I wonder if there's any chance it might be Region-Free? I know someone in Scotland dying to get this on Blu-ray, and won't be happy if this is Region A only. I don't suppose there's much chance a UK company will put it out?

Excellent news ! The movie is such a treat from start to finish. The characters, dialogue showcasing a wonderfully sly sense of humor, lovely photography and of course Connery's breathtaking train ride at the climax. And of course, Goldsmith's rich adventure score.

Hopefully the Blu Ray will do justice to the visuals and the music. A must have.

I read on another site that all these Kino Lorber Studio Classics will be region A locked, which is a drag as there's many I'd like (& with a couple of new announcements every week!). I'm sure quite a few of these films will be released in Germany & France & maybe by Eureka & Arrow in the UK, meanwhile I'm thinking of buying a multi-region player.
