On MONDAY EVENING JUNE 16 , TCM will have a very interesting HAMMER FILM MARATHON. Interesting because unlike other Hammer films that have been shown over the years on TCM. This is the HAMMER most don't know about. A few of the most obscure Hammer films in recent history. It is a 6 film salute to Hammer. The first 4 efforts are Hammer films made before Hammer became a well known maker of horror films directed by Terence Fischer. A man who is best known for his later Horror films. They are - BLACKOUT-52-MAN BAIT-52-STOLEN FACE-52 THE UNHOLY FOUR-54.all 4 have been rare on TV for decades. Then comes one of the more obscure controversial Hammer films, NEVER TAKE CANDY FROM A STRANGER-60-A film dealing with pedophile, back in a time such subjects were not openly dealt with. This film has also been rarely giving a TV showing. The last film is HANDS OF THE RIPPER-71, A nicely done effort that has been pretty obscure on the tube for a while. Christopher Gunning delivers a beautiful score. For Hammer film lovers or just movie lovers check these films out. For the most part it is the Hammer we didn't know.

Thanks for the heads-up. I love Hammer films. I had yet to check TCM's listings for this week. I might have missed this.

Never Take Candy From A Stranger has been available in this set, which is a must-have, if you were unaware of it.

That's a great set indeed, Greg. Unusual to find three absolutely top-notch films in such a package. My favourites are NEVER TAKE CANDY (or SWEETS) FROM A STRANGER, CASH ON DEMAND (an extraordinary film, thanks largely to the tense scenario as played to perfection by Peter Cushing and André Morell) and (THESE ARE) THE DAMNED - not perfect in any way, but totally unique nonetheless.

Sony did several Hammer Icons DVDs set ( also, Horror and Adventure) and interestingly, I noticed a lot of these titles are now available as more expensive made-on-demand titles. Odd, as the original icons sets are still available at reasonable prices.

Thanks Dan!

I've got my DVR all set for all of them - except Hands of the Ripper which is available in US on Synapse Blu Ray - good disc!

I have those Icon sets & they're very good (don't be put off by the cheap looking covers)), to my eyes they get that rich Hammer colour spot-on, & on the back of the box it does say remastered in High Definition. So Blu-rays of: Terror Of The Tongs, The Gorgon & The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb please Sony (well it won't be Sony, it'll be whoever they license them out to).

Wow. Sure wish I could watch something like this. It's so interesting to see the old Hammer Classic. Especially the Vampire Lovers.

The rare Hammer I'd really love to see is the 1957 war film The Steel Bayonet. I think I saw it on the telly in the early sixties, it's like a lost movie, it's not even on You Tube!

yes THE STEEL BAYONET is a hard find these days, but in the back of my mind I remember seeing it listed somewhere a few years back. But right now I can't place where.

Before I forget just wanted to thank Dan for this thread -- I saw it it in time to set my DVR for a bunch of these films that I did not have. I've been obsessed with catching up on college baseball games that had been building up on my DVR (the regional tournaments and now the college world series) -- but had neglected to catch up with TCM's schedule.

I caught the hard-to-see Hammer film, Shadow Of The Cat a few weeks ago on Svengoolie, which starred Barbara Shelley and Andre Morell. It's evidently only available on R2 DVD, so it was nice to see.
