I'm glad to hear Desplat returning to the style that made him famous about ten years ago. I was left lukewarm by his outings of the last couple of years, but I am pleasantly surprised by this score! I may even consider to buy it.
Saw the movie today. The score is just perfect. Brooding, tense, sad. Some lovely themes. Great film as well. Interesting, sad engrossing. Highly recommended
Thanks. Finally saw this and wow! I remember being impressed with HEADHUNTERS but it didn't prepare me for this. Great job by director Morten Tyldum but more importantly what a game changing piece of history. I will never be able to look at films like THE LONGEST DAY, PATTON or BATTLE OF THE BULGE in the same way. And Desplat is absolutely sublime. As he says in this doc he tries to cover all the bases of what this film is about and does so impeccably.
I have to agree with Peter and Morricone. It is a wonderful, dramatic heart-rendering movie. I loved it, and I thought the score was perfect. I loved the way Desplat captured the passage of time as well as specific dramatic moments.
Cumberbatch continues to be a superb actor. He is amazing in the role. It is one of my favorite films for 2014.
One of my favorite scores by Desplat (I guess a favorite score, period).
So it was interesting to hear a couple of cues from IMITATION used in the excellent doc GEORGE CARLIN'S AMERICAN DREAM, which feature near the end of part 2, underscoring a montage of some of Carlin's more pessimistic and acidic humor in his later years. I found it very effective.
The cues utilized are "U-Boats" and "The Machine Christopher," both looped for extended use.
Jeff Morrorw is credited as composer, but I can't say I remember much about his music.
