I made mine on another thread below: Exactly. This whole limited release thing is a giant pain in the ass. The bigger the fan, the harder we fall. I know, I know if it wasn't for the lower licensing fees producers couldn't release most of the soundtracks out there, but from a consumer's perspective it sucks big time! And now it's on to DVDs! Buy it now or get screwed might as well be on the label. For those of us just interested having easy access to our cherished movies or scores we practically have to check daily to see what is going... going...gone! Then if we pay the big bucks on e-bay, the same thing can get released by someone else, possibly IMPROVED! It turns our passion into a giant CASINO! Please tell me yours.

When I was a kid, during the LP age, I would think that the great majority of LP releases of soundtracks and scores were "limited" -- filmmusic has rarely left its niche status. Record companies only produced a certain run -- and distributed them to radio stations and stores (and other locations like libraries). There were thousands of lps that appeared and disappeared from stores back then (not just soundtracks but debut albums from unknown pop and rock acts just getting started -- and countless classical albums). There were so many lps that I missed. Do I blame the companies? A resounding "no". No company owes you an extensive amount of "time" regarding the purchase of anything on the market. It appears and you make your rational decision based on your budget and living needs. Or perhaps splurge with a pricey item that you simply must have and tighten the budget for a while. The others you have to let go, as has always been the case with any purchase. I am just grateful for what we have and are constantly being offered. The decision to purchase or not is entirely my fault -- as is the end result of my not owning something. This is just IMHO.

I don't have a problem paying $30 for a limited blu-ray and even having to scramble quickly in order to get a much-loved title...but in such cases, I expect the quality of the product, specifically the picture quality, to be worthy of the price and the limited availability. Unfortunately that is not consistently what happens, and then I feel ripped off.
