I was up in the wee hours and was pecking away here at my Mac when I got an email from Amazon about their sale of the set "Marilyn Monroe: Classic 9 Film Collection (Blu-ray)," which includes:
"Some Like It Hot" "The 7 Year Itch" "Bus Stop" "How To Marry A Millionaire" "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" "River of No Return" "There's No Business Like Show Business" "The Misfits" "Niagara"
I've long had on DVD "The Diamond Collection" which includes the 5 biggest titles (except "Some Like It Hot," which I bought separately) as well as "Marilyn Monroe: The Final Days," and so my rule of how-many-times-can-I-watch-this came into play (when it comes to replacing DVDs I already have with Blu-ray). But that's just pennies over $4 a movie for 9 films of Marilyn Monroe on Blu-ray, missing not much more than "The Prince And The Showgirl." So I bought it.
Now $77.74, with Amazon only doubling the price -- not like when I accidentally missed their Rodgers and Hammerstein Blu-ray collection and it shot up a hundred bucks!!!
Saturday follow-up: I received the 9 movies today, and the majority of them have only the theatrical trailer along with trailers for other Monroe movies, and there are special editions of some of these movies on Blu-ray with lots of extras. These 2 have the most:
"Some Like It Hot": Audio commentary, interview with Tony Curtis and archived interview of Jack Lemmon. "The Making of Some Like It Hot." "The Legacy of Some Like It Hot." "Nostalgic Look Back Documentary." And more.
"The 7 Year Itch": Commentary from Billy Wilder's biographer. Isolated score in HD. "The Hays Code -- Picture-in-Picture with Sexual Innuendo Meter." "Monroe & Wilder: An Intersection of Genius." "Fox Movie Channel presents Fox Legacy." Deleted Scenes. And more.
Little extra on the other 7 films, so fans may want to pick and choose and buy more elaborate presentations for individual releases of these movies.
