Which version of Ryan's Daughter woud that be, Ron, as a matter of interest? The only version I have to listen to is from a Jarre film music concert disc.

Grecchus: I think that I was listening to the "Ryan's Daughter" part of a CD I bought a long time ago that included both "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Ryan's Daughter," although I think I have other different versions, including a couple of cues from a Maurice Jarre collection called "Jarre By Jarre" as well as a double CD live recording from, as I recall, Spain (as well as the Tadlow 2-CD set of "Lawrence"). I have SO much Maurice Jarre that I sometimes get it confused, especially these days, when I'm using one of my oldest iPods, a fat white Classic, after misplacing my skinny black 160GB one, buying another just like it, and misplacing it too! So everything on THIS iPod hasn't been changed in almost 10 years, so it's like a time capsule showing what I was listening to back then. Wish they had some sort of signal device to locate misplaced iPods! And it's not just me -- I found out that a friend had to buy another a few weeks ago when she misplaced hers!

Great advice. These are so hard to find at a reasonable price but they are great.
there is an excellent youtube video that shows how to extend the life of these hard to replace headphones. If this doesn't work the sonxtronic xdr-8000 are almost the same and you can find them cheap unlike the mdr-w08L.

Since this thread was just resurrected I thought I would say that this issue is why I don't buy headphones anymore unless they have replaceable cables. This issue is sadly something that happens all too frequently with headphones and is usually the first problem that occurs. So after years of replacing headphones after 3-6 months I decided to buy my Sennheiser headphones (possibly 8 years ago now) I made sure the cables were replaceable. I've replaced the cables a few times over the years but the headphones are going strong. Also had to replace the foam cups because they started to get really gross over time with deterioration. It really is a shame that there are still some brands out there that make it difficult to simply replace the cables when something goes wrong.

This is so weird that this thread has popped up again. Just this morning I once again sat on my favorite headphones -- an ancient Stax set that is no longer made. I've crazy glued the headpiece together about 10 times now. And it always works and stays glued -- but then big old me gets up in the morning dazed and confused and forgets that I ended the night before by listing to something, and then put the headphones on the chair. Crunch. I use as an alternative (for portable devices and often for music listening through my components when I don't use the Stax) an inexpensive set of Koss Ear-Clips that are, IMHO, superb for the cheap price. I find them comfortable with an "honest" sound -- if that makes sense. Just the right amount of bass. And by design they sort of slant on your ear and create a sound-image that is projected a bit in front of your head -- quite similar to how the Stax are designed. Also Koss has a replacement/repair policy that I've used on multiple occasions -- you just have to register your headphones, keep your receipt or invoice, and pay for shipping.

I do hate that "crunch" sound -- I always immediately know what I've done.
