Sorry to hear you got a detective Alien. I empathize with you about shoddy workmanship. The 1/4 scale Alien reminded me that when I first came to Houston in 1991, The Sharper Image had an Alien about six feet tall on display and for sale.
I saw this on Hobby Talk! So they took an old airplane model and slapped a Star Trek logo on the box art. Oh, yeah it does come with a tiny "forced perspective" Enterprise.
After three years of waiting, I finally got this Ray Harryhausen Hydra from JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS for $57 on ebay. It was new, still in the box, and I outbid another bidder whose maximum bid was $56. At the same time, there was another ebay Hydra---used without the box or protective plastic tray---and the same bidder got it for $84 which is $27 more than he bid for the new one.

Now this is my kind of collectible. Congrats on winning the bid! As you know Ebay buying is an art. Number one rule is be patient.
Very nice! I saw the original Hydra a few years ago at the Academy of Motion Pictures Harryhausen exhibit in Beverly Hills. It was still in great shape, and quite large too.
