I obviously have many of these tracks on their original soundtracks, and I have bits and pieces of the Silva re-rerecordings too. But how would you evaluate the performances, overall? Do they add something that the originals don't?
The Pirates Trilogy CD in particular is preferred as James went for a more orchestral sound. The rest you can probably skip if you already have the originals. Unless you want a highlight track instead of an album.
This is all terrific music, but I feel like it was a missed opportunity to release some GREAT never-before-released HZ music. There is so much music MIA from films like Crimson Tide, Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, Hannibal, The Fan, The Road to El Dorado, Spirit, and so on that still needs to be released. I would recommend this set to anyone that doesn't have prior experience with HZ's music. Good set otherwise though.
