EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS---Ridley Scott Biblical epic underway starring Christian Bale, Sigourney Weaver. Joel Edgerton, Ben Kingsley and Aaron Paul. Bale said, "Charlton Heston does Charlton Heston better than anyone. But the biblical account of Moses is extraordinary, and there was lots of room for us to go to places that [Charlton Heston's movie] THE TEN COMMANDMENTS never dreamed of going. [There are] No fake beards. There's nothing mild about the Exodus or Moses."

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR---new photo of Rosario Dawson released for the sequel which premiers on August 22. Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Powers Boothe, Eva Green, Stacy Keach and Christopher Lloyd star.

STARGATE---Dean Devlin explained the reboot trilogy he and Roland Emmerich are developing, "Of all the projects I’ve ever done, STARGATE is the only one from the beginning intended to be a trilogy. We always wanted to do parts two and three, but the thinking was they [MGM] didn’t want to do anything other than the TV series. So literally for 20 years I’ve been chasing this project.
Twenty years later, we can’t really do part two. We have to start over from the beginning. So let's reboot the series, put in all the things we couldn’t the first time, and set it up properly."

ZOO---CBS 13-episode series underway based on the novel in which a young biologist must solve the global pandemic which causes animals to attack humans.

SNOWBLIND---Universal TV and David S. Goyer (THE DARK KNIGHT) bought the tv rights to the horror novel in which over a dozen residents of a small town mysteriously disappeared 12 years before during a snow storm.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON---Mark Ruffalo dismissed a Planet Hulk movie, but a source said about the Hulk's future:
"Bruce Banner continues to play a key role in things in "Avengers: Age of Ultron", and when the final war with Ultron spills onto the battlefield and out of the virtual realm, he has a major part to play.
Unfortunately, that ends with him onboard a Quinjet on his way off the planet, with no way to immediately turn things around. He's going to have to ride out the trip. It's pre-programmed and he can't stop it."
A movie column writer added, "I suspect we'll see some sequences that very much feel like they're part of Planet Hulk story, but the larger story will be about the Guardians finding a way to get Banner home, only to end up going with them." The result could not only involve the 'Guardians' in "Avengers 3" but the 'Guardians' sequel would play a key part in getting Thanos to serve as the villain in "Avengers 3".

I have mixed emotions about this. First, I feel that Roland Emmerich's first "Stargate" is almost perfect and looks and (especially) sounds fantastic. In the first DVD of it, I blew out one of my speakers and I even re-bought it on Blu-ray when I read the review of the follow-up Bd release at DVD Talk (will sell the first cheap!). Frankly, as made, I think it's a classic, but can understand why Emmerich would start all over again with the first part for the consistency he wants for parts 2 and 3. So I'll keep my fingers crossed they do it right! But I'm going to miss Viveca Lindfors!!!

Sin City - is that Rosario Dawson? I could have sworn that was Eva Green - all over again wink

Exodus - First pics I've seen. I hope Sir Ridley's rod and staff brings forth much entertainment.

Alternate Titles for Exodus:Gods and Kings based upon those incredibly campy photographs...

Moses of Wales
Cleopatra 2: Insert God(s) Into the Title Here
Exodus: Anglo-Saxons in Egypt

Seriously, is this the same Sir Ridley Scott who made The Duelists, Alien, and Kingdom of Heaven?

Haha. Moses Of Sherwood Forest? An archery contest decides if Pharaoh lets his people go?

Seriously, I would think the guy knows what he is doing this far down the line. smile

Crumbs, that's Sigourney Weaver in the pic with Sir Ridley. One supposes shes the mummy of Moses.

You're judging a movie based on two photographs, one of which shows Ridley directing an actor?

In spite of my tendency to never see Eva Green in anything good (Casino Royale, The Golden Compass, Camelot, Penny Dreadful*) I'm still going to see that movie for the Alba.

*I had to give up on this for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was Billie Piper's Irish accent.

I don't think we have to worry about EXODUS looking poorly or campy based on a couple of on-the-set photos. This is Ridley friggin' Scott, for Chrissakes! It will look fantastic and ready to be mounted on anyone's wall.

Actually, I thought it would be brilliant if he had taken up the storyline 20 years later. All the actors are still around and lookin' good. That would have been more tempting than a reboot, anyway. I don't buy your excuse, Roland!

SONS OF ANARCHY---Kurt Sutter tweeted transgender hooker Venus Van Dam is returning for the final season, "I am very happy to report that in season 7 of Soa, There Will Be Some Muthaf--kin' Venus!"

Wow, that really looks like Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) in drag.

The first time he appeared It drove me nuts for about 10 minutes before it dawned on my it was Walton Googins, he was doing that good a job in a part about 180 degrees different from ANYTHING I've seen him do before.

That really is Walton Goggins?!?!

Well that explains why it looks like him then, I guess.

Actually, I'm judging it upon a number of other photographs available to view at the EW website just by following this link...

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2014/07/01/first-look-christian-bale-as-moses-in-ridley-scotts-exodus/

And then I am judging it based upon its miserably white-washed cast, eventual non-biblical or historical accuracy (just you wait until the Christians are drawn to this one based upon the title and content alone, which inexplicably includes the word "Kings," only to start up another attention-spawning dialogue about how atheist Ridley Scott has ruined THEIR heritage), and that it will include a script written by the writers of Tower Heist and the Olsen Twins-epic New York Minute (where are the REAL screenwriters in Hollywood?).

This flick looks seriously campy and Ridley Scott ain't exactly a fresh voice for cinema lately. At least Noah had Darren Aronofsky's unique perspective guiding a huge-budget religious epic, instead of this paint-by-numbers cash-in. I hope it is at least funny enough.

Thor, last time you told me this The Counselor was beset upon my eyes and fried my brain rotten -- in no good way, either. And then before that it was Prometheus, before that Robin Hood, Body of Lies, A Good Year, Hannibal, GI Jane... I feel like I'll just be repeating myself back to the year 1985. Maybe it's just me but outside of the merits found in Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, and Black Hawk Down Mr. Scott isn't exactly batting any kind of decent average in the past 25-plus years. He's constantly getting stuck with miserable scripts and a seeming lack of interest in his subject material. To put it one way, I was really grief-stricken when Tony Scott died because not only was he one of my favorite Action filmmakers, but his work really shines when compared to his more-noticed brother. I was very upset that I wouldn't have a chance to see any more pictures by him.

Well we're talking about Hollywood here. Besides its not like the Christians get their own bible right either.

I didn't particularly care for THE COUNSELOR either, but by Gods, it looked fantastic! I think if there's one thing we can be certain of without having seen a single shot of the movie, it's that it will look good (in some form or shape).

Beyond that, we'll have to wait untill the film is here to draw any more conclusions.

That movie was a colossal disappointment. I don't know what happened to Aronofsky, because he's made some great movies, but that flick definitely qualifies as "campy." It should have been called Noah the Shoegazer. And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that film stocked with mostly or entirely white actors?

And the Rockformers were hilarious. Not in a good way.

I was not a fan of Aronofsky's Noah in the least, but it did inspire me to re-read all of the great epic poetry that is Genesis as well as dig into some earlier scripture like the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Zohar. I also enjoyed Clint Mansell's brooding and towering score, and the really special "creation and war" montage which Aronofsky unfortunately threw into the movie too little, too late. It was indeed campy. Ray Wise especially, though he has a wonderful scene where he calls to the Creator for power and answers, and then departs his tent defiling God's name and calling for his kin to do the same. I found that to be a striking moment in an otherwise silly film.

And, yes, the all-white cast, again.

And the Rockformers were hilarious. Not in a good way.

Admittedly they are a bit off-putting, aren't they? But I had a huge respect for their inclusion after going back to those ancient texts which I mention above because they are largely derived from the seraphim angels and other giants which supposedly walked the earth before our recorded history.

It wasn't their inclusion that was off-putting, it was their design.

Don't we? Do you think that's all there is with Moses, Thor? The biggest myth about a nation's baptism there ever was.

Those two photos just HAPPEN to look ridic. Look at Sig's costume. You can go stylised, you can go authentic, and you can go ridic. Guess which?

I want to see the SCREENPLAY! And if it's anything like 'Robin Hood', 'Gladiator', and 'Kingdom of Heaven' (which was a bit better than the other two) it'll have all sorts of 'hommage' digs at the DeMille, and probably thefts from the De Bosio film in the hope no-one remembers.

Christian Bale's comment about Heston: why, Oh why does Hollywood ignore the DeBosio film with Lancaster? Or even the Di Laurentis one with Kingsley?

You can see where this is going. 'I'm Ridley, and this is gan doon the road ov HARD, man! This is no softie film for big jessies, this is like HARD Hittin' man. And it's lovly an' ATMOSPHERIC, an that' an' like them Hovis adverts ah did back when ah wuzza lad back in N'castle, man'.

Burgess did a great screenplay. Let's ignore that fact and harp on about DeMille because we can always improve on that, but keep the DeBosio film out of the publicity, because, frankly we can't come NEAR Burgess.

Why do directors always feel they need to get their organs out and flash them around these days? You're THAT HARD Ridley. Yes, an' tha Robun Hood war shite man, as they say in Newcastle. It lacked CHARM, just as this Moses will lack genuine numinosity and meaning if Sig's costume is owt to go by.
