Hi,
Can anybody tell me if any recordings of this fabulous TV series music exist? There were great composers besides Morton Stevens , among them: Richard Shores, Jerrold Immel, Peter Rugolo, etc. I think a CD would be fantastic.!! Any idea about this, Mr. Ford Thaxton?

Oh back in the day when there were a lot of great tv themes!!
Certainly there were versions of this on tv theme LP compilations.
Someone on here will tell you what.

I would pick up a POLICE WOMAN CD set in a heartbeat!

Hell, I'd pick up two copies...:-)

Sounds like a great project for BSX!

It's on Mancini's "The Cop Show Themes" CD which was recently re-released by Dutton Vocalion as a 2 fer along with "Symphonic Soul".

I got thinking that with Mort’s FIVE-O music in limbo, now might be a perfect time to look into getting some of his fantastic music from POLICE WOMAN released. I wonder if there are elements available for such a project.

Perhaps, someone can chime in:-)

Mancini stretches his version out to an interminable 4 minutes, yet never gets around to the main theme.

A quick 1 minute version appears on the CD "Television's Greatest Hits Vol. V - In Living Color" (1996).

Tony Camilo did a version that was released only on an A&M 45, which is closer to the original than Mancini's, if you can look past the sound effects:

John Gregory did a version that turns a little film-noirish in its second half for his 1976 Mercury LP "TV's Greatest Detective Hits." It was released in the U.K. as "The Detectives" on the Philips label. It is not available on CD.

And the original:

This is the only version for me. Three of Mort’s best scores for the series:

TRIAL BY PREJUDICE (1976)
SOLITAIRE (1977)
MERRY CHRISTMAS, WALDO (1977)

Simply wonderful stuff:-)

One of these days, when I have time, I'll have to check out the scoring for this series. And the other.

This information is not correct!
The John Gregory recordings are released two times on CD by MERCURY:
1) MISSION IMPOSSIBLE And Other TV Themes ...(1996)
https://www.discogs.com/de/John-Gregory-His-Orchestra-Mission-Impossible-And-Other-TV-Themes/master/942280
and rereleased
2) SIX MILLION DOLLAR TV THEMES(2000)
https://www.discogs.com/de/The-John-Gregory-Orchestra-Six-Million-Dollar-TV-Themes/release/2852052

Gregory's POLICE WOMAN version is my personal favorite of all recordings I know!

Good to know. I couldn't find it under the original release titles and made the assumption that the recording was not out there.

According to Jon Burlingame's book "Television's Greatest Hits" Stevens took the melody from his friend Jerry Goldsmith's main theme from "Our Man Flint" and turned it "upside down and backwards".
