Reissue of original Lex Baxter soundtrack from landmark 1960 debut of American International Pictures cycle of highly successful Edgar Allen Poe-themed horror movies featuring Vincent Price.

Reissue of original Lex Baxter soundtrack from landmark 1960 debut of American International Pictures cycle of highly successful Edgar Allen Poe-themed horror movies featuring Vincent Price. (Contents identical to Intrada 2011 release). Also known as The Fall Of The House Of Usher, Roger Corman directs, Richard Matheson scripts. Intrada presents entire score from only surviving music elements available through MGM - the music-only dubbing masters used in final production of film. Happily these include no dialog or effects, albeit assemblies and edits of many cues were, of course, already locked in. For early screenings of movie, Baxter supplied an "Overture" to get audience into proper mood. Cue was dropped from subsequent re-releases of film and initial home video presentations but happily was present on scoring elements and also appears on our CD. Baxter scores for full orchestra plus chorus, writes music both soothingly tonal, frighteningly dissonant. Score is lengthy, covering some three-fourths of the picture! Informative notes by Tim Greiving, handsome graphic design by Joe Sikoryak. Score recorded at Samuel Goldwyn Studios in May 1960, Les Baxter conducts. Intrada CD, an integral part of any Les Baxter collection, now available in our MAF series!

The last two tracks are worth the price of admission, as they say.

Good score but too bad there is no PIT AND THE PENDULUM-61- Baxter's masterpiece.

Yes, this tracks are jam.

If I remember correctly, original release become OOP VERY quickly - I got up, listen samples, ordered this one, went for work. After I return I found that Ushers were gone.
So I'm so happy that this one returns - more people need to discover this great music.

He was thinking of his brother, Irwin Allen Poe

And it's not Lex Baxter either! (At least they didn't put Lex Barker for once.)

Joking aside, I'm happy that people who missed out on this will be able to finally get it. I think it's one of those rare occasions where I am held spellbound by the music from beginning to end. No "great in 20-minute chunks" stuff which I've been posting a lot of recently. This really does weave a complex and compelling spell. It's a truly magical work.

Damn there goes my chance at selling my copy that I wasn't really wanting to hold on to. I might as well make room for it somewhere now.

Even an MAF release can get the boot. Damn. (Not a new thing, but it sucks all the same.)

Now I really don't understand why this happens.
It's 3rd time when MAF title (which in previously means - unlimited in time & quantities) will go OOP.

Maybe Intrada wants the price to skyrocket in the usual places.

Wow! I thought USHER might follow MASTER/GOLIATH, but it's still disappointing, even sad, that such incredible music is being shown the door once again. I missed out on both original releases, so these reissues were a thrill for me.

The passage from about 0:39 to 1:40 is just gorgeous. I love the counter-melody played by the cellos beginning at about 1:18.
