I bought both Italian releases as well, very pleased with Cat's Eye's blu-ray debut, Maximum Overdrive however does not looks as impressive as you'd expect from a blu-ray release. Still better than the dvd, but you wish there'd be extras to make up for the old transfer.
Other Stephen King movies out on blu-ray in europe that are worth buying are The Dark Half (France), Riding the Bullet (Germany), Sometimes They Come Back (Germany). Lawnmower Man is set for a German blu-ray release this month I believe and Christine will be released by Sony in couple of months. Graveyard Shift had a release on blu-ray in France but it was interlaced and not much of an improvement over the dvd release.
....would LOVE to see a domestic Blu-ray release of "Cat's Eye" as well as King's 'Salem's Lot" (the 1979 television movie).....hopefully, one day it will happen.
Great article, Andy, though I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a horror (or King) fan that would agree with you that CAT'S EYE is superior to CREEPSHOW. Such an odd comment to make so off-handedly without explaining your reasons for believing so. That said, you'll get no argument from me that both films are superior to MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE, though MO is a "guilty" pleasure for me.

Yes, Cat's Eye doesn't linger. The problem with these anthology movies is that there's always one or two stories that don't work as well; I'd say for Cat's Eye the one for me that hasn't aged all that well is the drew Barrymore one with the dwarf creature. In the case of Tales from the Darkside the movie which had one Stephen King story, it was definitely the mummy story which wasn't as memorable. With Creepshow, for me "the Crate" and "Father's Day" were filler. Still, I find these movies fun to revisit and I wonder what has happened to the anthology format in the horror genre?
Are any of these international Blu-rays (CAT'S EYE, MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE, THE DARK HALF, RIDING THE BULLET and/or SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK) region-free, allowing them to be played without issue on U.S. players?
