This July La-La Land Records Gets NAKED!

Coming Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 12 pm pst:

THE NAKED GUN TRILOGY – 3 disc set
Music by Ira Newborn
LLLCD 1303
Limited Edition of 2000 units
Retail Price: $34.98

Produced for La-La Land Records by Dan Goldwasser and Neil S. Bulk
Mastered by Doug Schwartz at Mulholland Music
Liner Notes by Daniel Schweiger
Art Direction by Dan Goldwasser

La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures are proud to present a 3 disc set of Ira Newborn’s classic scores to THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD!, THE NAKED GUN 2 ½ THE SMELL OF FEAR, AND THE NAKED GUN 33 1/3 THE FINAL INSULT. Jam packed with fantastic heroic themes, action packed, heart pounding tunes and sultry, sexy film noir cop thriller music circa 1978, Mr. Newborn’s diversified score is right up there with AIRPLANE! and TOP SECRET as some of the best music this genre has ever offered. While only some of the first 2 films scores were previously released, the third film in the series is making its world debut in this set! Also featured in this collection are songs from the various films, including “I’m Into Something Good,” “I Guess I’m Just Screwed,” the Academy Award’s show-stopping number “This Could Be the Start of Something” performed by Pia Zadora, and, arguably the greatest rendition of “The Star Spangle Banner” ever sung, performed by the great Enrico Pallazzo (a never-before-heard prerecorded performance)!

Naked Gun and it’s sequel, 2 ½, have been completely remastered and expanded greatly. Mike Matessino had the opportunity to go back and remix the first film’s score to its original glory! The 36 page booklet features extensive liner notes by Daniel Schweiger that take you behind the scenes of the funny films and their magnificent scores. Composer Ira Newborn and the magical film making team of ZAZ (David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker) also lend some insight into these comedy classics. Dan Goldwasser’s art direction bring the zaniness altogether in one attractive looking package.

This 3 cd set goes on sale next week July 15, 2014 at 12 pm pst. This is our only new release for this week.

PLEASE NOTE: We MIGHT have a limited amount of signed copies autographed by Ira Newborn available at the time of the release. There is a 50/50 chance of us having them, though, there's only a 10 percent chance of that.

Keep watching our facebook page for updates.

Cool release! I have always been a fan of Newborn's Naked Gun music. Can't imagine the films without them.

Interesting. A childhood favourite.

The theme is a classic -- an obvious nod to Count Basie's theme for M SQUAD (or was it Leslie Nielsen's POLICE SQUAD theme that referenced this...I keep confusing the two).

The rest of the music is pretty bluesy and jazzy, like most of Newborn's stuff, as far as I remember.

Wonderful news! Sometimes a thing you never think of as a grail comes out, and then you realize just how much it should be! smile

Thanks for this one, LLL!

And just because I haven't used up enough of my weekly allotment of exclamation marks:

!!!

Wow out of nowhere! Complete surprise... havent thought of these scores in a decade or so but loved them back in the day. Might have to pull the trigger on this one despite blowing a load of cash on a house closing next month. Love Ira! Dragnet Iis another great Newborn score.

I now cannot stop humming the theme. So, um, like, thanks for that, MV and MG.

It's easy to confuse them, what with them being the same and everything.

Yes! The borrowings seem deliberate and fun. This and his short stint with John Hughes stays with me while most comedy scores don't. Much bigger fan of this than POLICE ACADEMY.

This is great! There's some really good music in this series. It will be nice to have all three scores!

This was a nice surprise! Comedy scores often get overlooked so I am glad this is getting released. It's been a while since I actually watched all three films, so I don't remember all of the music. But I remember there being a lot of memorable cues from all three.

First B&T's Excellent Adventure and now this! Great summer for us getting great comedy scores.

Now if we just got a new Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II and maybe a full release of Fletch & Fletch Lives...lol
