The ALIENS DE sounds better than the initial release for sure, but right: just think about the splendid recording of BRAINSTORM a few years earlier, again with the LSO.
I'm not excactly a Horner fan, but this is one of the few scores of him I do adore and worthy of another buy even if there is no new content added.
Yes. BRAINSTORM needs a proper expanded reissue. The OST is oop. Lets hope Varese gets to it this year.
Well it did get a proper release in 1983 when VARESE paid for James Horner to go to the UK and do an album recording with the LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and The Ambrosian Singers that as far as I recall covers all of the major cues from the score.
It's a stunning score that very well recorded and was one of the best sounding LPS and CDS that VARESE ever released.

Now beyond putting out the original recording for the sake of putting it out, what EXACTLY IS MISSING from this album that matters, how many minutes of score didn't he include EXACTLY?
Anyone know exactly?

To begin with the the Varese OST is re-recording with LSO and Junior Ambrosian Choir.
Thus making BAD TO FANBOYS!!!!
The film recording for the score was done in LA. There are about 5 minutes of music that's in the film and NOT on the re-recording
Which Im sure are the 5 BEST MINUTES OF THE ENTIRE SCORE THAWT HONER left off by mistake, right?
Besides a remaster of both plus better liner notes and the premier release of the film recordings( with alternates) makes a very good case as an expanded 2cd set.
You of course assume there are alternates..
Given the the album is about 30 minutes and the full soundtrack is about 35 minutes, it could easily fit onto a single CD.
There are a couple of threads on the topic here. The fanboys would love to have it.
I'm sure that they would, but why spend the time and resources on this, even the existing album is just fine to start with?

I would enjoy a CD of Brainstorm with both versions of the score, much like "Damian: Omen II" had both the album and film version of the score for that film on one disc. I enjoy some of the film takes more than the album, but love the album recording a great deal.
As for Aliens, the "Queen to Bishop" cue sounds like it was mixed differently on the CD than in the film. I wouldn't mind a "film version" of that cue also. But I'm primarily good with the CD as is.

E disc from my collection. So I wouldn't mind to upgrade again. I.E If a new mastered edition is on the horizon. I'd grab it.
