Ha! The picture you posted was immediately familiar, it's the tour of Mont Blanc and it is an approximate two week walk starting from Chamonix in France and taking in a tiny bit of Switzerland and Italy. A fabulous walk with fabulous scenery.

1. The Pyrénées (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrenees) 2. The Col of Pailhères, Ariège. 3. My outfit: brown leather German hiking shoes, an anti-UV hat, a pair of 4-glasses by Persol, a portable thermo canteen for belts. 4. For fresh air because I live in a big city and fresh air is rare!
I prefer to hike in expansive forests but there aren't many around here in San Diego. So I hike most frequently in whatever area is easy to get to. I'm not a huge fan of mountain hikes because I rarely use those leg muscles and so I usually regret the hike the next day.
I mostly hike because I love to take in the scenery but more recently also because I love to photograph the beautiful scenery. I usually take shorter hikes (under 3 hours) because I like taking hikes with very little in my pack. Thankfully there are plenty of gorgeous hikes where you can find amazing scenery in shorter hikes where I have looked.
One of my favorite hikes was the "bowl and pitcher" in Spokane Washington. The actual bowl and pitcher were lame but the scenery was amazing.
