I have just seen this film from the 1950s. Apparently the score has never been released. It's very traditional in style but a superb score.
I would like someone to release complete scores from this and other similar westerns e.g. 'Chief Crazy Horse', 'The Great Sioux Uprising', 'Sitting Bull' etc.. or, if not complete scores, perhaps an album of suites from these films.

They would probably have to be re-recorded as the original soundtracks might be somewhat 'worn'.

In the meantime I am still waiting for 'The Ten Commandments' which I believe is 'coming soon' from Intrada and, as mentioned in other threads, a new recording of Nascimbene's 'The Vikings' would be very welcome.

Yes, TOMAHAWK and many other Salter scores would be welcome. But there are just too much good stuff for every one to get it's just due.

Salter did a lot of great scores. I'd love to see a release of Paul Sawtell's score for Denver and Rio Grande(1952), some nice music in that one, it's a very good Byron Haskin picture too. So many old westerns with excellent music.

I never saw Tomahawk, but would welcome any Hans Salter cds.

Western films and their scores are real favorites with me, especially from the 40s and 50s.

We need more western scores on cd. Niall ....... see what you can do! smile

If you can find it, you'll probably enjoy the music on an LP of Salter western score highlights (including BEND OF THE RIVER) released by the late Tony Thomas. He also put out a great LP of Hans's music for the Joel McCrea TV series, WICHITA TOWN. Only half of that LP, alas, was released on CD.

That's great news about MMM working on a western CD. I presume it'll consist of archival tracks, but if MMM (or anyone else) is ever in a position to record new performances of wild west music, a very likely candidate would be BEND OF THE RIVER: Hans's complete conductor manuscript exists.

In the meantime, we can all rejoice in listening to Kritzerland's release of THE FAR HORIZONS. (Thanks again, Bruce!)

It is indeed great news Preston, and from what I've heard it will be more than one CD of western scores coming from David Schecter and the fabulous MMM label! Time for rejoicing soon...eh PFK!

What if I'm not on Facebook? How will I see it?

Anyway, there is music from BEND IN THE RIVER not on that Tony Thomas release. Would love to do something it someday since publisher is one of my clients. A really stupendous score.

As Niall mentioned, we have some western stuff coming out. I'll post here eventually. Do most on Facebook because Facebook people are such dear friends of mine!

First one mentioned is Sawtell/Shefter's THE GATLING GUN. It's a great score with an amazing story behind the movie, which few people have seen.

In a couple days I'll post info about our 2-CD set of classic western music, from Dunlap, Shefter, and Glasser!

Hope to have all six CDs ready in just a couple of weeks. Everything's being assembled/finished as I type...

THE GATLING GUN-71- What touching memories. It was a small film that got limited theatrical release, but shortly after in the early 70's got put into syndication and movie station Channel 9 in New York on their BIG PREVIEW FILM on Sunday night premiere it.It was my sister's wedding day, but I remember me and a few of my relatives plopped down on the couch and watch the film. Neat little film with old pro JOHN CARRIDINE.CABLE in recent years has ignored it.

When I see the name of Albert Glasser mentioned in a new release of classic western music, one thing comes into my mind. It has to be something that delighted me in my youth: THE CISCO KID.

Close, but no cigar!

That's disappointing. For me, it was much more memorable than Oklahoma Territory.

I didn't say we wouldn't get to it. Because the one we're releasing is really melodic and pretty and if you like CISCO, you should like this one as well!
