Daniel Pemberton has been hired to score the upcoming film adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Hugh Grant, Elizabeth Debicki, Luca Calvani and Jared Harris. The spy action comedy is based on the 1960 television series and tells the origin story of the first pairing of the two spies — one American, one Russian – who up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. Ritchie has also written the screenplay with Lionel Wigram (Sherlock Holmes) who is producing the project with John Davis (Predator, The Firm, I, Robot, Chronicle). Pemberton’s previous scoring credits include Ridley Scott’s The Counselor, the horror thriller The Awakening, this year’s comedy Cuban Fury and the British comedy series Peep Show. Ritchie has previously collaborated with such composers as Hans Zimmer (Sherlock Holmes), John Murphy (Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) and Michel Colombier (Swept Away). The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is set to be released on January 16, 2015 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

I must revise my original comments, I've reviewed his IMDB list of credits

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1207404/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1#composer

He seems to have a very active career in UK TV and a few of the shows listed I have seen and were good.

So, I must retract my original comments and will keep an open mind until I see the film itself and hear what he does for it.

Everybody has to start somewhere. Plus he tends to be quite happy to talk about his music. smile

Pemberton's a very talented and versatile composer, and seems like a great choice for this project.

Daniel did a fine retro spy score for the 2012 UK TV series DIRK GENTLY which sounds like it could fit nicely into a stylish U.N.C.L.E. environment. This news item from one of my old columns describes it:
"DIRK GENTLY/Daniel Pemberton. This score for BBC Four’s drama series, based on Douglas Adams’ cult classic ‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,’ showcases Pemberton’s instantly catchy style: a score driven by a retro feel channeled through infectious harpsichord riffs and cimbalom melodies over a pop combo beat - as lifted right out of a 1960s detective TV show. Pemberton’s score is an ode to UK TV legends such as John Barry, Laurie Johnson and Roy Budd, but with a modern twist and it also features other quirky elements such as Wendy Carlos-inspired lo-fi electronica!"

I thought Theodore Shapiro was scoring this.

Oh, well.

I enjoyed Pemberton's Prehistoric Park soundtrack quite a bit. Too bad that Guy Ritchie is directing , but am looking forward to what Pemberton will come up with here.

Pemberton's music for the Little Big Planet video game was superb, odd, and viciously catchy.

Let's hope that Jerry Goldsmith's original 5/4 time theme gets the respect it deserves.

I love the Dirk Gently theme, and was very grateful that an official soundtrack CD for the series was released.

If he scores UNCLE in a similar vein, and that's appropriate for the film, I'd be very happy.

That was complete BS. He has never been attached to it and himself has no idea where all these rumors came from. not to mention he is quite busy with different projects...

If the score isn't based on Goldsmith's themes, I not going to bother to see it.
Even though Jerry didn't like the show, he wrote some of the most sophisticated music on TV for that genre. He didn't write the expected pop/rock junk that was so popular at the time.

I saw pictures of the actors - whom I'd never heard of - and decided immediately that this is a very bad idea.

Kyle McLaughlin should have been tapped for the Robert Vaughan role. He would have been perfect.

This is going to be just another crappy remake that will fail at the box office and maybe break even through Netflix or on-demand viewing.

I'll care when there are samples and I like them. Until then, the art work and tracklist mean nothing to me.
